A little perspective on this 10-2 record.

I'm hearing alot of fans talk about how this season has been a success because we have reached 10 wins. While I agree its nice to win 10 games back to back (especially since it hasn't happened since I was 5 or 6 years old) I think its important to take a look at the teams we won and lost to this year.
We played 10 cupcake, FCS caliber teams and beat all of them (this is a good thing since we usually lose one or more of these games).
We played 2 teams with a pulse this year and were soundly defeated by both of them.
The reality of where the Clemson program is right now is that we are finally starting to beat the teams we are supposed to beat but we cannot beat any teams that are on our same talent level or slightly above us. Players like Tajh can light up the defenses of Duke and Wake Forest, but when it matters most against our arch rival who has owned us 3 years in a row we completely go in the tank.
In my opinion it is better to go 6-6 with a win against Carolina than to go 10-2 and lose to them. In watching interviews and press conferences it doesn't seem that this rivalry game matters as much to the Clemson coaches and players as it does to the fan base. Maybe I'm wrong but I just don't see it. Talking about a great season after getting embarrassed for the 4th consecutive year by the coots makes me sick to my stomach.
Is South Carolina a better football team than us? If they were completely healthy I would say yes. But they aren't healthy. They had key players banged up and missing last night but it just didn't matter. Even though we had them in Death Valley for a night game, we still couldn't rise to the occasion. We had the deck stacked in our favor and still fell flat on our face. And what was the deal with punting with 3 minutes left down by 10 points??? That was an absolutely abysmal coaching decision. At what point does losing consecutive games to USuC become unacceptable? 5 games? 6? 7? 8?
10-0 vs. Cupcakes 0-2 vs. Real Football Teams
Hard to say this has been a successful season.

but she said to me before the game you haven't talked much about the team this year. I said I know it's weird, and they're 10-1. This is what it feels like beating teams you should and losing to the ones you should. I looked forward to 3 games this year, and if Auburn was later in the year, I would have known better. Watching games on TV at WF and Duke aren't even something to clear the schedule for.

after the Ga. Tech game. Sure. We beat the Jackets handily. However, I felt so empty afterwards. It really became clear to me while driving home and hearing the SC-UGA score, in which the Gamecocks were manhandling the Bulldogs. I said to myself, "How can I get excited about our beating a high school offense when our rival is destroying a real football power?"

They are healthy at the positions that matter

As long as Clowney is there, we might as well save the gas money. I didn't fully buy the hype until last night. He has a chance at Heisman next year with the sec love and the support and attention he already has. Our 2 star OL recruits aren't going to stop him.

I agree. Clowney is the real deal. He is a once in a lifetime player and I have a ton of respect for him. Very unfortunate that we couldn't find a way to neutralize him.

I have always said the only way to get better is to play teams better than us. We continously beat the ACC cupcakes and we get big heads, high rankings and think we can beat anybody on any given day. But it seems when we play a talented team, we get embarrassed. (Orange Bowl, 4 in a row) Unfortunately the ACC does not give the competition we need to get better. Why do you think Bama is so good...because they have to be to get to the top of the SEC. Some say the ACC is the place to be because it is the easier road to the top. I go back and forth. This year for instance, we have 10 wins but nothing to brag about. We dropped in the polls 3 different weeks after wins. No top 25 wins, no win over our bitter rival, no conference championship, no BCS all while we watched the likes of Duke, Wake, Maryland. We can play in the SEC and get nothing, but at least we would see some great games (UGA, Florida, Bama, etc, etc).
Maybe this is the bitterness of the loss coming out, but I am tired of losing to those coots.

Might as well get used to it as long as you guys recruit great skill personell and sub par olinemenand d lineman. USC recruits oline d line first and then get what skill personell we can. I called it a reversal of roles or the Danny Ford rule. Danny used to have great big uglyies and Usc have skill personell and CU killed use physically. That is what has happened is a reversal of roles

The only part I disagree with

is the "Soundly defeated" part. We held our own in both of our losses this year and led at halftime in both games. We just don't have the depth/ability to sustain those kind of leads for a full game against high quality opponents. However, this year was not supposed to be "our year", but it turned out to be good (not great season). Next year we should be able to turn the corner with the players returning and hold on against quality opponents for 4 quarters.

Some fair points. The 2 losses just felt so demoralizing because of the meltdowns in the second half. I sure hope you're right about next year.

Disagree with the disagree

After the first quarter we were dominated by S. Carolina. We hung around and were "in the game" on the scoreboard, but if you felt like we "held our own" after the first quarter I have to question if you watched the game. Clowney lived in the backfield and our defense let SC go up and down the field and survived by holding SC to FG's and getting a turnover in the endzone and several defensive stops just outside of FG range.
FSU owned us in the second half of that game. WR's couldn't get off the line again their D-line dominated us and they scored at will. Out of 8 quarters we played against quality opponents we were dominated and abused in 5 of those. We didn't just get outplayed in those quarters, we were flat out whipped.

We play "soft" teams all year except for two. I think that in itself is making us "soft". We need to play better quality teams in our OOC schedule. I think that will better prepare us for quality opponents and bowl games.

While I know many CU fans would like to join the SEC,that doesn't seem to be reality.Consider the B12.Competition is better week in and week out as 9/10 teams are bowl eligible.A WVU fan here and can attest to conference strength. Our record isn't as good as teams from our Big East seasons but the opponents are much better.WVU realizes that it will take time to win in the B12,but the satisfaction is greater and the financial rewards will be also.Better payout from Sugar bowl, better paying bowl line-up,more TV/media contract money and you can distribute your own Tier3 rights.Something to consider.
