.... to move all bowl games to August.
1. Teams would schedule 11 games with the 12the game being a bowl game.
2. Those teams that do not get invited to a bowl could schedule a game in August against another team that did not make a bowl.
3. Labor Day would become the new "January 1st." Rose, Sugar, Orange, Cotton, and maybe even Fiesta and Peach could be played on that day.
Matchups would be assigned after the season ended the previous season. Rose could have the Big Ten Champ vs. the Pac 12 champ even if one or both of them made the playoffs.
It would make the "opening weekend" filled with big games. Great way to kick off the season. Not just one or two marquee match ups like we have now.
Other bowls could be played earlier in August, just like they are played earlier in December now. You wouldn't have players opting out of bowl games now, since it would be the first game of the season, not a meaningless exhibition like they are now. Attendance would be better at these small bowls than they are now.
I gotta believe ESPN would pay as much for the rights to these bowls as they do now. August is a "slow month" for sports. Baseball a long way from being into playoffs. NFL hasn't started. NBA hasn't started.

move every bowl game outside of the CFP to a spring game.
For instance, say this spring Clemson might play Tennessee in the Gator Bowl. South Carolina vs. North Carolina in the Belk Bowl. GT vs. Vanderbilt in the Macon Bowl(many smaller would have to be made up)
Or, might be even better, schedule instate schools for the spring game, charge a small fee and let them keep the profits.
Clemson vs. The Citadel
South Carolina vs. Charleston Southern
Coastal Carolina vs. Furman\
etc
