The longer this takes, the more likely BV stays.

Dec 2, 2021, 12:40 PM

Its not that hard. You bring in your #1 candidate, see if he wants the job, offer it to him. Maybe you give him 24 to 48 hours to think about it. Agree on a handshake and let the lawyers write up a standard HC contact.

This feels like its starting to fall apart. You know Stoops is lurking around the every corner because he wants the job. Probably calling boosters to gain support.

Now we hear that the AD wants to wait until after Saturday to look at the DC at GA and the Cinny guy.
BV might want complete control too, I would. Riley took 5 guys with him, including the football operations guy. If im BV i want to hire everyone. After all the place is a mess.

There also a rumor that someone was filming Rileys practices or wanted to film to see how the team was progressing. No way, thats a deal breaker. This isnt BVs first Rodeo, I would not want to be mirco managed. If you want a kid go get Beamer. After all is the current admin. that f...ed everything up.

I think things are pointing in the direction that BV is staying.

lets hope so.

From news Channel in OK.

nformed source. #Sooners waiting till after Saturday’s game to interview Fickell. Expecting Campbell to interview if not done yet. Don’t erase Lanning. Could explain Brent recruiting in Ala today, according to photo.

Brent is not interested in OU and very well could not care in the least about anything but DC, at the minimum until his son graduates. Still, there are much better spots than an OU which is falling apart on it's way into the SEC.

I would wager everything I own in this life on Brent getting the last laugh or three on OU.

Was meant for the OG post, my bad.

I think ur right. The OU program will be a dumpster fire for at least 2-3 years, especially if they lose some of their top recruits.

What does waiting accomplish?

Dec 2, 2021, 2:00 PM [ in reply to Re: The longer this takes, the more likely BV stays. ]

If UGA and Cincy win Saturday, are they going to wait until mid-January?

The more longer that people worry,

Dec 2, 2021, 12:47 PM

The more worrying will happen.

Stop already. He was staying all along.

You do assume he’s their first choice. If he’s third, he has to wait as well.

That would be correct.

Wonder what he is telling recruits?

Oklahoma will soon realize how the SEC treats teams other than UGA and Bama. They won't have an enjoyable ride in the SEC.

You re honest. You say...."My name comes up for just about every jobs that comes open. Right now I havent been offered and I dont know if I would except. But you have two weeks before you have to sign so I ll call you as soon as I Know what Im doing." Then you remind him of all the reason Clemson is on his list.

That s all you can do, because as soon as you leave he ll be texting other recruits and the players on the team. Comparing notes.

It's easy, head coach at the dumpster fire that is OU right now or DC at stable Clemson university. His family is here and he likes it here and he probably doesn't want to deal with that migraine headache.

I don't have any inside knowledge, but I can imagine this being a very difficult decision for BV(assuming the rumors of him being the #1 choice are true.) I believe him when he's said in the past that he wants to stay in Clemson until all his kids graduate. I believe he even said at one point that he promised them they wouldn't have to move again until they finished school.

I think for that reason he's never seriously considered any other offers. I can imagine though he never pictured a job like the Oklahoma one coming open during that time. Bob Stoops was rather young for a coach, and then Riley was even younger and having a lot of success so I'd imagine the thought of it coming open never entered his mind.

I can imagine he wants to keep his word to his kids, but I can also imagine it's hard to do because what are the odds of a job like this coming open again? It's not only one of the top football programs in the country, but even with a lot of players transferring away he should be able to win a lot there right away. It's not like he'd taking over at a place like South Carolina where he'd have to build from the ground up or anything.

Also on the other hand, he's been at Clemson for a long time an I'm sure he's made a lot of friends and especially gotten close to Dabo and other coaches on the staff that have been around for several years as well. That part though is just a reality of the business they're in, but I'm still sure it plays some level of importance at least.

I'm in a similar situation with my job with a lot less money involved. People with similar experience and qualifications as me have moved up in the company in recent years because they've been willing to relocate to other parts of the country. I'd rather not move as my kid is young and my family and my wife's family are really close to him. I still make plenty of money to pay our bills, have some fun, and save so it's not like I need a promotion for us to survive or anything. It's hard to imagine an offer that would make me willing to move away. However, if some unexpected offer came up to like make me the CEO of the company or something(not going to happen but just saying) then I'd have to listen.

I think you are right

At this point, it's clear CBV isn't their first choice. That being the case, he probably won't get the job.

Sounds reasonable to me they are waiting on Fickle.

I agree, I think if it was Brent and he was their #1 choice, it would have happened by now. But also their have been reported that Okie’s BOT meets tomorrow (Friday)

Let’s hope that it is another Division 5 Head Coach or waiting for this weekends conference championship’s and an announcement is Sunday or Monday for say, Fickle.

We will be ALRIGHT forever what happens because Dabo “has a plan” for this day and WE ARE CLEMSON.

GO TIGERS!!!!!!!

OU treated CBV like dirt. He may well leave to be a head coach but, it will not be there. Have you ever been to Oklahoma? That place if horrible. One trip was enough for me.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Gotta agree with you there

Dec 2, 2021, 4:53 PM

For me, Oklahoma is an even weirder place than Louisiana. Hard to describe with words. I can't see why anyone would want to live there.

For the record, I live Texas.
