The liberals are widening the gap between haves

and have nots by regressing our education system even farther. Parents who can afford it will pull their kids out of public schools and many have already started doing so.
Removing AP, honors courses, and "gifted" programs are ideas the guilt-ridden woke liberprogs are forcing on all of us because they have a warped sense of equality. The truth is, which has been proven time after time over history, is that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. In this case, the libs are running out of water, but are still trying.
The poor communities have to take ownership of their individual state of affairs, period. AIN'T NOTHING GONNA CHANGE for them until that happens in a significant way. The libs will bring down the entire country trying to implement their backwards ideas of fairness.

Similar things have happened in Wake County, NC, but they cover it up pretty well.

I don’t agree with de-leveling in principle, especially not at the high school level where I think the die has usually already been cast. Where we might make a bigger difference are in early grades and pre-school (starting at age 3) for kids who are already behind the curve developmentally…and I don’t mean the type of glorified daycare that many school systems provide…need to provide actual structured content by certified early childhood and special needs teachers. And let’s not start ranking kids quite as early…let’s leave them all together at least through 5th grade. Our school system starts separating ‘gifted’ kids as early as 3rd grade, which I think is too early.

Only thing I disagree with is the part about the 3 year olds. Let them be kids. No point in any organized school at that age.

Does seem early…maybe older 3’s…working on basic social skills and learn how to interact and how to actually just play and be a kid. Some of the places these kids spend most of their time is really nowhere you would want a kid to be, period. The less time there, the better…even at 3.

I guess that’s a fair point. I just see no value in teaching a kid to read at 3. That can wait until about 5. In my opinion all the early achievement only boosts parents ego and has little to do with long term success. I started learning to read at 6 in 1st grade. We had nothing earlier. I’m actually thankful for that.

Yeah…not really talking about learning to read as much as just get to a place where learning to read is even possible. Plus, I’m not talking about all kids…just those that already find themselves behind the curve…getting them closer to the level of their peers by Kindergarten. Of anything we do as a society, I would say that nothing benefits is more in the long run than an educated and competent population.

Not political? Of course it is political. Democrats that run most of the school systems are making these decisions all over the country.
I am glad you think that way, though, because it may mean that you do not support this type of thing in general. We need more left leaning folks to go public with their opinions that this type of "cut the top off" approach is not a solid strategy for long term results.
They justify these decisions on the typical talking points: oppressed, marginalized, underprivileged kids, spending more on top performers than low performers, rich schools do better than poor schools, etc. The environment is ripe with every talking point you'd ever need if you are a democrat.
The problem with poor kids getting crappy education, especially black kids living in the black culture, will not be solved by limiting growth of top performers.
The black culture has to change for progress to be made. The desire to "help them" with freebies is the same as giving the coke addict one more thin line so they can get by to the next day.

A Google search shows that the school has a 2% black population, but you seem to never miss on a chance to repeat your critique on black people or "the black culture".
As Cat said, there was no evidence presented that this move had any political undertones to it. Is it misguided? Maybe, but they'll figure it out.

Inside the school, i.e., the principal, and you have no idea where he stands politically.
You also just got owned by Tamahawk.

What bad luck for Barrington HS. Clearly located in a good area, with all the advantages of being in a well-to-do district.
But arrogance and mis-directed focus will lead to bad things for Barrington. Barrington will never descend to the level of a Columbia (SC) High or Petersburg (VA) High; their tax base is too strong.
But a great HS can descend quickly into mediocrity when the school leadership walks away from strong educational principles and runs toward 'woke' nonsense.
Too bad for Rhode Island; this district's good parents will do a better job of educating their kids via home school or private school than having them rot in an environment of woke stupidity that is Barrington is apparently bent on teaching.

Maybe this is a horrible decision. There's no evidence it has political motivation.
NC's believe is that anything he doesn't like = LIBERPROG!

According to US News & World Report ratings (FWIW), Rhode Island has the 2nd worst educational ratings (combination of pre-K through 12 -and- Higher Education) ... with only W.Virgina and Alaska being worse then RI ... than all of the other "Northern states" north of South Carolina.
RI is such a small state that most academically committed families can move to CT or MA to live, and commute into RI to work.
RI ... historically (and also currently) a very liberal state ... is on a race to the bottom.

On this example Mr. Hey Hey, I'm in complete agreement with you.
As long as competition isn't restrained by Gov't against one side, then the natural 'leveling out' process will occur between the (in this example) two sides.

Blowflake

A Trumpist who rants about soft and offended people are but then screams and cries over things like messages on Starbucks cups or anyone discussing racial issues or NFL players taking a knee during the anthem.
A Blowflake is triggered by an NFL player having "End Racism" on his helmet.
