The Heisman Trophy lost

it’s luster in 2013 when it was awarded to Jameis Winston, an individual of such poor character and integrity.
Deshaun Watson is indeed the most outstanding player in college football whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. Winners epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work.
Whether he brings home the 25 pound bronze trophy or not, he is the clear winner to his fans, his family, and all of Clemson Nation and no one can take that away from him. That is all that really matters.
I will enjoy watching him play in these last TWO games and will certainly miss this great man of integrity next season.
Thank you Deshaun Watson for being a man of greatness in ability, integrity, and character on and off of the field.
Your reputation is the greatest trophy that you will carry with you for the rest of your life.

Agree 100%, when he won I realized they no longer care about character. 2013 was a travesty.

I totally agree. The Heisman has become a useless award because they no longer use the standards to award the trophy to the most deserving player. IMO it is DW, and I am saying this as a fan of college football not as a Clemson fan. Most of those who vote I don't think no longer has a clue as to what the Heisman Trophy truly means and stands for.

How about Derrick Henry winning it last season when it was painfully obvious that DW4 was head and shoulders above everyone else at that time . The Heisman is in love with running back numbers and that couldn't be more obvious than the fact that LJ is a great runner of the football but really only an average passer at best . I hope DW wins although I think he finishes 2nd this year .

Maybe if he does not win it this year and is projected to go in the second round of the NFL draft he will come back for his Sr season. He did drop that hint recently. He could mean millions of dollars if he came back only to become the first pick next year.
That would give the other guys another year to develop too.
Maybe that seems selfish as a fan but IMO I do feel there are some areas ( very few ) that DW needs work on that would increase his draft value.

Could be a CJ situation is what you're thinking ? Wouldn't that be a real kicker !
I think he is leaving but I never rule anything out completely .

I am not a Jameis fan, but I think Manziel tarnished it the year before at least as much as Jameis.

I agree. Manziel tarnished it the year before. Actually it's funny y'all think Jameis is the leader in tarnishing the trophy based on character. What about OJ Simpson? No? Reggie Bush? Or we can go all the way back to 1959 winner Billy Cannon. It's never been a character award and it didn't start with Jameis over a pack of $30 crab legs that was a hookup gone wrong. I am starting to think the way he is carrying himself off the field now that he was more a victim of ESPNs smear campaign than anything else.

The thing is Jameis and Manziel didn't show who they were until their sophomore campaigns after they won the Heisman.
Lamar winning is not a travesty.

Its a popularity award....nothing else.
They need to dilute the voting pool down to only past winners. Media has no business voting.
