The Future of college football: Which would you prefer?

Jul 2, 2022, 6:46 PM

Not that these are the only two possible scenarios, but which would you prefer?

The best players money can buy, even if their only real connection to Clemson is the uniform.
Real, legitimate college students who happen to be good at football.

Illuminating poll @Smiling Tiger® ... I picked B theoretically, but I believe B is really Div. 2 Football.

"A" is basically the ruination, and the end of college football. I am afraid that's where we are headed. Personally, I'd have zero problem with "B". Nothing wrong with recruiting good football players to come to your school to play football, but they should have to meet and maintain all of the same academic requirements and standards as all non-athletes, and be students first. Anything else is really a sham.

Roger that. My take is Dabo is working fairly within the existing rules & system as well as he can and still compete. Plenty of tutors. Plenty of preferred team professors. From experience, team-friendly professors have been in play at least since Ford years. Some ballers can compete with mainstream majors and students; some can't. UNC has mastered designated majors and private Duke is not encumbered with public curriculum or records laws.

the game, I voted B. Even though I realize it is a substantially inferior product talent wise.

outclassed by the big boys because the entrance requirements in the ACC were so tough compared to the SEC and Big 10 and just about everybody else. Those were the Frank Howard years. I know I was just a naieve little kid, but even into the 1970s, pre Ford, Pre Pell, I loved Clemson football every bit as much as I did at any point since. Sure, the big time winning is glorious, but I will live and breathe Clemson football win or lose ... as long as the players are real Clemson students.

This is kind of like making money at any cost or making a decent living with integrity.

I'm doing a write in of what I would rather see, and have--- Real, legitimate college students who are really good at playing Armature football the way they did for over a 100 years!!!

Now that was some really good college FB when they played for an education, and raw emotional pride for the college they played for!!!
