The formula

Play well early. Run out of tricks on offense. Refuse to run the ball. Lose to good teams. Rinse and repeat.
Frustrating.
But I will take 9-3 on a rebuild.

That is obviously the missing link. I was concerned about Morris and Co leaving our defense out there too long. Would he run the ball enough to give our defense a chance? Well the flip of that is would our OL be good enough to allow us to run the ball that much? Davidson and Gallman averaged over 5 ypc so I say yes- they did. Morris put them on awful situation by getting away from the run and being 1 dimensional. The best OL can only do so much at that point. Same for defense. Bottom line- we need a run game.

Makes me sick that we led for Gurley and Marshall at one point. We got on Gurley too late. He wanted to be a Tiger

Stop living in the Past. Gurley ain't walking through our door, just our D. Morris panicked, once again. Hate to say it, but he does that a lot... Completely abandoned the run in the second half, we kept UGAy honest in the first half. We got 24-21 and everything offensively stopped, again panicked

He actually quit blitzing. Cole picked the up early. Their d line just peeled their ears back late and they say in 2 deep daring us to run. Did 5 man pressure a couple of times but that relentless pressure was 4 rushers. Mixed up the 4 with zone scheme but it was mostly 4 guys.

Refuse to run the ball?

Please, we ran it far more than we should have last night. Don't make sweeping statements like that if you're not informed. We actually ran it MORE times than UGA did.

I am informed. And I also am a coach. I know what I am talking about tyvm

We ran 50something plays in the first half to 22 in the second. We didn't "abandon" the run, we just couldn't move the ball at all.

Watch the 2nd half and tell me how many called runs we attempted. And the series when we fell behind by 3.....we went 3 and out- all passes. That set the tempo for the rest of the night.

I don't need to "watch" the second half; that's why they write up play-by-play summaries.
There were 7 designed run plays, a quick pass to Davidson that was dropped, and another pass to gallman for 10yds.
I'll grant that the 4th quarter was particularly bad: there wasn't a single handoff in all 4 series.

I will give him a pass on the 4th because at that point we just playing catch up. And that "watch" post wasn't directed at you coren. You make very good points.

But in the second half, runs weren't working often enough.

We played 22 snaps in the 2nd half. 9 passes (almost all behind the LoS) and 13 rushes. That includes the sacks as rushes, but it was still almost 50/50. The bigger issue is all the pass plays were lateral/backward, and never down the field.

Look at the 2 series after UGA Took the lead and tell me how many rushes we attempted.....and the 31 1st half a little misleading due to series to end half where we shoved it up there noses. And Cole didn't throw downfield after the int. Game changed on that play.

The first series after their FG was 2 complete passes to humphries on screens (6 yds total) and a designed QB run for 2 more.
The second was 2 rushes by davidson and a complete pass for no gain (another toss behind the line).
Maybe they don't realize the days of Sammy's million-yards-beyond-the-catch are over?
