Sarah Fuller

Nov 30, 2020, 10:36 AM

Surprised to say that I think I'm in the minority here, but I loved seeing Sarah Fuller kick off on Saturday. Why not? I'm not sure what it is that makes some people want to critique the kick and the situation as a whole.

It's not like she is taking a scholarship from somebody else. She was ASKED to fill in, and did what was asked of her. This negatively impacts literally nobody, and positively impacts so many young girls and boys that have never seen this happen before. The hate she's getting is wild to me...

I hope Vandy's offense shows somewhat of a pulse at some point and she gets a chance to hit some FGs.

Monday thoughts! Stop hating :)

I haven't seen anything about that either! I would think that she's on scholarship for soccer and is essentially a walk-on for football, so it wouldn't affect her soccer scholarship

Oops, here's the c&p:

Vanderbilt
Fuller attended Vanderbilt University on a soccer scholarship in 2017 and became a starter in the 2020 season. She made her first career start in goal against South Carolina in October, making six saves. Fuller started in nine of the team's 12 games in 2020, finishing with a 7–2–0 record, 28 total saves, and a 75.5 save percentage. Fuller's 0.97 goals against average was the eighth-best in Vanderbilt history in a single season and helped the team win its first SEC championship since 1994.[5] In the championship game, she had three saves in a 3–1 win over Arkansas.[6]

Which is why it’s ridiculous that ESPN and the media is acting like this is something special because girls of already kicked in high school and in college football and she didn’t earn the opportunity it was given to her.

And what makes the whole thing even sillier is that she didn’t really kick it. It was a squib kick. Anybody can do that. An old lady with a walker can do that!

To make matters worse she is on Twitter, and Vanderbilts Twitter, saying it was a long journey and it wasn’t easy as if she walked onto the football team back in the spring and earned a spot as a kicker on the team.

This was a gimmick, virtue signaling, a publicity stunt, because despite the fact that all of their kickers had Covid or injuries, there are probably a dozen kids on that football team that played soccer in high school that could’ve been an emergency kicker. And every team has an emergency kicker for this exact situation. Not to mention the fact that any kid on that team could’ve done just as good as her on a squib kick!

But even he would knock her out cold And beat her in any sport except soccer assuming he didn’t play soccer in high school. I guarantee you he can out run her out lift her out punch her and pretty much anything else.

Like John McEnroe said, Serena Williams is the best female tennis player ever, but if she played the men’s ATP circuit she would be ranked around 500.

I remember when Annika Sörenstam?, Best female golfer ever, played on a sponsors exemption in something like the John Deere classic which doesn’t even have the best male golfers, One of those tournaments that usually has a very weak field, and she still missed the cut And I think the only players she finished ahead of were players that were disqualified or quit playing because of injury and we’re not given a final score. And golf is a game where women should be able to compete against men.

I would take that bet. Because I guarantee you he will still faster stronger and quicker.

It may be close, but here’s what you’re missing, she is an elite female athlete playing in a sport that the ACC dominates and he is a walk on.

The average guy that has never played a day of sports could beat the #### out of most women in a fight. Including elite athletes. Our World Cup women’s soccer team plays against the boys 17 and under team to prepare for the World Cup and the boys kick their ###! A high school boys basketball team would beat the snot out of An all-star WNBA team. The best female golfer in the world played in a weak field PGA event and finished last. If Serena Williams played the men’s ATP tour she would be lucky to break into the top 400 in the rankings.

I don’t have anything against women and girls I love them. But when it comes to sports they have no business playing against boys and men. And male transsexuals that transition to women have no business playing against girls and women either!

I do think some people are hating however it still wasn’t a good kick. It was a line drive kick and probably traveled 20 yards through the air then rolled another 10-15 yards. That’ll definitely hurt the defense if it continues.
I’m fine with women playing if they contribute and have to compete but if it’s a publicity stunt then leave that for the movies and tv shows.

Can you provide 1 single instance where a kicker made

Nov 30, 2020, 12:04 PM [ in reply to Re: I'll answer in the order in which you asked... ]

a game saving or touchdown saving tackle this past weekend? Power 5 or NFL. Figure there were oh I dunno 100, maybe 150 kickers at work.

You may or may not be aware of this, but a kicker's ability to tackle has absolutely zero impact on that kicker getting recruited, getting playing time, getting drafted, or anything else. They aren't even show how to nor made to practice tackling. AT. ALL.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Can you provide 1 single instance where a kicker made

Nov 30, 2020, 12:16 PM

OK maybe not this weekend but you’re being ridiculous you know what I’m saying. Kickers make tackles often that safe touchdowns and save games.

And now you pick your kicker because he’s the best kicker, but he is expected to do you more than just cake. They don’t kick then run off the field.

Girls are not going to be able to kick it deep enough consistently and they won’t be a safety valve and make a game saving tackle.

You’re being up teeth because you know this is ridiculous argument. You know they’re not as good as boys not even close. And they will get killed trying to make a tackle. Stop being stupid! People like you are ridiculous!

I’m not mad that she played. I just think it’s ridiculous. She did not earn it! What starts getting me irritated is stupid people like you acting like they have just as much a right to be out there as a boy or that they’re just as good as a boy when anyone with two brain cells knows that they’re not!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Can you provide 1 single instance where a kicker made

Nov 30, 2020, 12:22 PM

last thing I'll say:

"I’m not mad that she played. I just think it’s ridiculous. She did not earn it!"

You do seem a little mad. Nobody is nominating her for the Groza award, but it was a cool moment and she did exactly what was asked of her. She eliminated a return with the squib kick, thus eliminating the possibility of her having to make a tackle, so I'm not sure where that part of your argument is coming from.

I hope your day gets better, life is good

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Can you provide 1 single instance where a kicker made

Nov 30, 2020, 12:31 PM

I’m not mad she played. And my day is fine. But this is a ridiculous discussion because girls don’t belong on the same field with boys because they’re not as good. And in a sport like football they’re going to get hurt. Seriously hurt!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not as good as boys?

Nov 30, 2020, 12:39 PM [ in reply to Re: Can you provide 1 single instance where a kicker made ]

I mean, elite male kickers are certainly much better than elite female kickers. We can all agree to that.

What I'm suggesting is that perhaps this elite female kicker IS as good....or yet BETTER than the other male options available at that moment.

And no sir you are dead wrong. I don't think for one minute this lady had a RIGHT to kick. I do think she earned it. Over the available males. And for whatever reason this makes you sooooooo uncomfortable.

Dude she it a 38 yarder in practice. At least if you believe the coach. Think that's easy? Go try that 100 times today and report back. You won't even kick it long enough 1 single time to even clear the end zone, let alone up and through the uprights. ZERO FOR 100.

You aren't so dumb as to think she may actually have been a better option that was consistently better than the QBs, WRs, RBs, DBs, LBs, DL, etc are you? She obviously wasn't a better option than the 3 or 4 male kickers on the roster, but they couldn't play and that's not her fault.

Tackle? Who gives a shat? Vandy is ranked 85 in kick return defense, so apparently not many of them tackle well. Maybe a directional kick was in order based on how terrible the game was going, a poor kick coverage team, and concerns over a 4th or 5th string kicker kicking off for the first time. Maybe it has nothing to do with her gender.

I don't think we are going to see some influx of female football players lol. I do think she earned it (granted in extenuating circumstances) and for whatever reason this makes you an uncomfy snowflake.

I'm not hating. I look at it like this, if you are qualified and can do the job better than anyone other candidates available, then you should be put in the job. If you are not qualified, then you should not get the job. Vandy thinks she is qualified, so we can go on that for now. But performance in the job tells the tale. We can't go on one squib kick as the end all, be all. Let's see more kicks and get a larger sample size before making the "public judgment".

I don’t care if girls play if they are better than boys. But they are not. And how many times have you seen the kicker save a touchdown? She would never be in a position to do that because she wouldn’t be fast enough to get in position and she wouldn’t be fast enough quick enough or strong enough to make the tackle so you’re basically kicking off with 10 players not 11 and giving the other team an advantage. You you actually bring up a good point.

Every football team should have a girl kicker and give them a scholarship. Then power 5 schools could take the NCAA back to court over Title IX and have their 85 football scholarships count towards male AND female compliance and bring back some male sports cut because of Title IX.

It would be using feminism against the feminists!

"I love this place, I've got a spot already picked out where I want 'em to put me when I die - up there on that ole hill near the stadium. I want to be there so I can hear all them people cheering my Tigers on Saturdays; then I won't have to go Heaven; I'll already be there."- Frank Howard
