The gas restrictions are expected to go into effect by the end of 2026 in Montgomery County.
Maryland can have some rather cold winters (not a mild winter climate) so that pretty much rules out heat pumps and leaves electric furnaces as the only real alternative to natural gas. It will probably take a while but there may come a day when the residents of Montgomery County regret this decision. Wonder if anyone did the math to see how much electrical demand will increase when every new home has electric furnaces, electric water heaters, and electric stoves. 15 to 20 years from now Montgomery County may find that they have some serious electricity shortages especially during the coldest days of winter.
Through the years I've lived in houses heated by all three of the major types of heating systems (electric, natural gas, and heat-pump). Hands down natural gas has always produced the best heat for the cost.
Banning natural gas is just another reliable and reasonable energy option being taken away from the citizens by the cult followers of climate change.
