The disastrous fake punt

Oct 15, 2017, 10:00 AM

Was that called or did the punter go full ######?

I kinda got the impression he was supposed to go for the 12 yards and not the home run.

we are missing the point here

Spiers throw was better than most of Cooper's throws. He threw into double coverage.
Syracuse was in punt safe, also

It was an option for the punter to rugby kick or throw according to Dabo. But, the throw was not there and he was trying to be a hero, which is why you saw Dabo light into him.

Do not give him the option. Did Dabo not learn from the Teasdal fiasco that nearly cost us the ACCCG?

We were in dire need of a spark and some momentum, so I'll live with the call.

My thought is that the receiver has to be WIDE OPEN to take the throw, which he was not.

Should’ve gone with the rugby kick. Would’ve even rather him run and pick up as much yardage as possible - from the replay it looks like he had room to take off and would probably have needed to make one guy miss but that throw had no chance.

Dabo called a punt in the ACCCG. AT took matters into his own hands. How do tiger fans not know this? Wait, I think I answered my own question.

I'm not seeing the big deal with the fake punt. I've seen it called a 'critical error', 'most glaring Clemson blunder', etc. It changed field position, but Syracuse didn't need to score, so it didn't matter that they had better field position. We never got the ball back, so didn't matter that we would've had worse field position. It would have made things harder for us IF we could stop Syracuse, but if you are playing what-ifs then it could have won the game if it was successful. In the end, that play didn't matter.
