The counter-argument to Dabo's transfer issue...

Generally speaking, I'm in total agreement with building from the draft. But, if you happen to be super thin at a position due to players transferring or leaving early to the NFL draft, then you also have to think about the other guys on the team who have worked their butts off for 3 or 4 years.
Guys like Skalski, Justin Foster battling back from covid, and previous years guys like ETN, Wilkins, Ferrell, etc. It could be a huge disservice to those guys by not having the best possible player in place.
The reality is for us this year at QB, I can't imagine any good QB would have be willing to transfer to Clemson anyway knowing that they weren't gonna play unless DJ was injured. With very few exceptions, at all levels of football, if your starter QB gets a season ending injury, you're not winning the Natty, not winning the Super Bowl, not winning state, etc.
So I'm just saying in general (not specifically this year at QB) I don't think simply saying "no" to transfers is very wise and can be just as detrimental to your team chemistry as taking a few transfers.

They didn't say 'no'...simply that it's not the preferred route. Just as with offering scholarships, which are scarce in the grand scheme of things, a portal selection would carry a very specific set of criteria...essentially a 10 out of 10. At some point, there will be a portal selection and, as with every other topic Dabo has spoken on, the media will 'hear what it wants to hear'. It will never pass a good chance to try and suggest hypocrisy by Dabo.

They said that they didn't even consider it.

That's very different than looking into it and deciding that it wasn't the best option.

We have no idea what actually happened behind the scenes. Perhaps they did look at the portal and did not find anyone they thought were better than the QBs on campus or incoming. So instead of trashing the guys in the portal they used this as a messaging opportunity they can point to on the recruiting trail.
Saban did the same thing this week by stating his QB was making near $100K per year. He was standing in front a group of coaches but was speaking directly to recruits.
With more experience you will learn that everything a coach says to the media cannot be taken at face value.

Not $100k - the figure mentioned by Saban was "Near 7 figures".... and that is almost $1 million/year.

I agree. And I also agree that we will go to the portal

and that Dabo is much more open to the idea than he portrays to the media because he is always 'crootin. Just like Saban. Everything is a message.
I think some people think that the transfer portal shuold be off limits. I disagree and think Dabo also disagrees.
We all hate it. It sucks. It's awful for the students because it teaches them to just quit and pack up their bags and go home when a little adversity strikes. It puts them behind in their school work and graduation. Countless negatives.
But it's not going away, so you hate the rule but you also have to embrace the rule and make the best out of it.

Call me old school, but the lesson on perseverance should come from parents, not the NCAA. If they outlawed transfers, there would be no opportunity to teach that lesson.
Further, the portal covers many more cases than those who are going through adversity. I suspect many SEC portal entries are from athletes who were told they should look elsewhere. There are others (e.g. Tykee Smith at UGa) who chose a school based on certain coaches and when that coach leaves want to follow.

Here is a counter argument to your counter argument. When did colleges start drafting players?( You said you were in total agreement with building from the draft). I know that colleges "RECRUIT", and the NFL "DRAFTS" but when did the colleges start drafting, which also poses 2 more questions to your counter argument; 1) Does this do away with signing day? 2) Will ESPN now cover The NCAA draft? Just saying.

Anyone not being intentionally obtuse knows he equates the draft with our currently recruiting system.

I don't have my Funk and Waggoner dictionary handy; What does "obtuse" mean and can one do it, or be it "unintentionally"? Oh and Wal-Mart carries a generic brand of products under the name "Equate".I know cause I sometimes use them.

We have QBs- 3 maybe 4 that can play. So why's there a problem?
