The coots are falling for it ...

Nov 28, 2022, 2:06 PM

Giving Beamer a huge extension, buyout and raise based on 2 games ...

They are no closer to winning a SEC title ... they were 0.500 in the SEC.

They said the same about us with Dabo.

We didn't give Dabo a serious raise until he won the ACC title.

Dabo's salary was $900k in 2009. Coaching salaries have skyrocketed in the last 10 years. Clemson was a fringe Top 25 school then and we were paying our coach <$1M/year.

You can't hire a coach at a similar school like that for less than $4M/year nowadays

I'm well aware salaries have skyrocketed. That wasn't the point. I'm refuting that there is some serious comparison between Beamer's new contract and the one Dabo got after beating USuC in 2008. He became the 66th highest paid head coach in America and dead last behind Boston College in ACC salaries. His buyout was nothing - less than 1 years' salary regardless of amount of time remaining.

But, after seeing the actual terms of Beamer's extension (the OP implied it was substantial - at least that's how I read it) it seems pretty modest to me. He'll still be lowest paid SEC coach and only has a buyout of 65% of remaining compensation. It's comparable for the opposite reasons conveyed in the OP.

Bro, Clemson literally offered Dabo the job due to him beating South Carolina in 2008

what's with you guys? That first contract was a joke and conveyed zero confidence as a long term head coach. He was one of the lowest paid coaches in the ACC.

To put this into perspective, we paid our basketball coach, Brad Brownell, the same $900k salary we paid Dabo in their first respective year at the helm. Yes, a football school, Clemson, paid its basketball coach as much as its football coach. One of them parlayed that start into greatness. The other, well, the other did not.

Like it or not...and I don't bc he coaches the Coots

Nov 28, 2022, 2:12 PM

but Beamer is the best hire they have made in a long time. He just took a team that wasn't projected to do anything to a winning record, two top-10 wins, and a bowl berth. On top of that, even though he is corny and over the top, he seems like a good guy. They haven't had that EVER.

That's a win in most SC fans' books. I'd trade that 8-4 record with a win over ND and USC right now over 10-2.

....with losses to Louisville, Georgia Tech, NC ST, and, let's say... Boston College? Have us finish like 4th in the ACC Atlantic and play in the Music City Bowl?

Pass.

Let the Coots have their fun. Their Dollar Tree Dabo found a way to beat a poorly motivated and poorly prepared Clemson program by 1 point. Congratulations. They are making a big investment in him because maybe, just maybe, he can win 10 games a year. Heck other coaches in the SEC are getting 8-9 million a year to lose 4 games a year. Why shouldn't Dollar Tree Dabo?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

maybe, maybe not, but one thing is true........

Nov 28, 2022, 2:33 PM

he was 1.000 vs the ACC Atlantic's "best" team.
