The BESTbuy on TV service by FAR right now is YouTubeTV

Aug 26, 2019, 10:20 AM

Reasons:
1. Up to 6 Accounts each with the ability to build their own unlimited DVR library

2. Up to 3 Simultaneous streams at the same time with different or the same content

3. Watch any DVR content is not counted as one of your simultaneous streams

4. BIGGEST BENEFIT OVER ALL other streamers, YouTubeTV allows you to use your three streams out of your home area if you choose to on TVs, not just on paortable devices. This is the the single biggest advantage for anyone that travels for work, has a second home, has a kiud in school, or has any other need to watch from one or many other places without the limitation of streaminng to a mobile divice and casting to a full size TV. YouTubeTV allows this NONE of the others allow it.

5. YouTubeTV all in is 55.00 per month. and provides a spectacular stream with the smallest bandwidth. Google is in this thing for the long run, and I have zero doubt that they will win the race.

6. I highly recommend that anyone that is nervous about the user interface, will find YouTubeTv much better than all except HuluLive, and substantially better than HuluLive.

7. You don't need smart TVs, and I might argue that most of the smart TVs like Samsung that decided to go it on their own , and build their own smart TV interface will eventually drop that idea, and incorporate ROKU or Fire (If fire ever can convince Google to let them play with YouTubeTV), into their TVs. Samsung, is behind on every single streaming application that comes out on their smart TVs.

8. If you spend the 35-35 bucks, one time , on a Roku for your TVs , they will all have the EXACT same user interface. You wont have to learn 5 different remotes and etc.

9. For any of you that absolutely have to have the hallmark channels, add Philo TV streaming service also available on the Roku, at about 15 bucks a month and you will have more channels than anyone in your house needs to watch along with all the sports on YouTubeTV.

Why are so many of you hanging on to the outdated technology of Cable and Satellite? It makes absolutely no sense. I laugh when I still see people trying to out swindle the swindlers with DirectV deals and cable high jinx. THat used to be necessary, I did it myself. It absolutely isn't needed anymore. Don't waste half your football season figuring it out.

Where are people finding Philo for $15?

Everywhere I have looked it's $20.

I haven't switched yet but am planning on Philo being a part of my switch to Youtube TV.

Glad that works for you to. I have heard its great. If you don't need the flexibility of sharing out of your home on TVs not just mobile and the unlimited DVR etc most of the differences don't matter to you . Go Tigers!

Here's my questions:

Aug 26, 2019, 10:39 AM

So here's my questions I still have:
1. Am I going to miss my slow motion replay? I love to step thru the footage to see if there was actually a hold, step out of bounds, catch and even to see our D crush someone one more time. Is this available on any of the streaming services? I did not think so.
2. Can I get 4K or better streaming with lots of devices going that could interfere with my bandwidth? I am in a rural area and if this is the case, I might want my DirecTV just to separate the signals. Anyone have issues with this?
Any help with answering these questions would be most appreciated. Any comments to make me feel stupid are not.

1You will miss your slow motion.
2. All of them , as far as I know broadcast in 4K when it is delivered in 4K .
3. I have been told that streaming with the advanced caching that is being used is not taking much bandwidth at all anymore . I have had family over with two TVs streaming different games and at least 5 people on combos of iPads and iPhones and droids etc without issue on a measly 300meg internet service from TDS

HuLU Live

Aug 26, 2019, 7:14 PM [ in reply to Here's my questions: ]

When you sign up for HuluLive during registration it asks you if you want to be able to pause, fast forward rewind live tv. I assume they ask as your answer determines what bandwidth may be needed but it sounds like what you like to do is an option with HuluLive so you may want to check them out. 7 day free trial just cancel on 6th day

Aug 26, 2019, 10:45 AM

YouTube TV does not carry certain channels that a person watches every day. Case in point - the American Heroes Channel (AHC) and the Science Channel (SCI)....

Don't get me wrong - YouTube TV is a very attractive streaming service but no one can tell any individual that a particular streaming service is "best" because everyone has different viewing requirements and needs...

That's why he also mentioned Philo for another $20/month (he said $15, but it shows $20 on the site).

It has AHC, SCI, A&E, MTV, VH, etc...most of the channels missing off YoutubeTV.

Did you check for other, Philo is just one that I listed, sources to stream the American Heroes Channel? Philo is mostly aimed at the "gap between YouTubeTV and Hullo Live and the non sport enthusiasts at 15 bucks. If someone wants just the Halmark stuff , they have their own streaming app called Hallmark Now that is only 5.99 a month.

As a matter of fact, I just googled streaming sources and low and behold , AHC is on Philo , that is the one I cited above

Sure you can buy into multiple services but why do that

Aug 26, 2019, 11:37 AM

when a single streaming service provides all the channels a family requires for the same or lower cost?

My point being - YouTube TV fits your needs best but don't assume that will be the case for everyone. In my case, PS Vue has all the channels my family likes from one provider (and only one app) that are not available from any other single provider. The cost is actually lower with PS Vue than buying into multiple streaming services (YouTube TV + Philo) to get the channels my family wants. Additionally, we have all the channels we want listed in a single guide without having to switch apps to see/watch certain channels not provided by one of the other services.

I have used the middle of the road ROKU's some of them come with both a wireless and wired ethernet port. If you have a wired home and want the best ethernet connection possible at each TV location use one of the devices with a hard wired ethernet port. I have had no problems from the cheapest little dongles. The more expensive ones allow you to control your TV Volume and power with the ROKU remote. That is the only difference thatI have noticed.

And yes, I am somewhat of a geek. I tried all the streaming services, and none compare at this moment to YoutubeTV

I just received my Roku Streaming Stick+ over the weekend and it is awesome. It supports 802.11ac so if your router supports that, then you can get really good bandwidth for streaming. My cable billing cycle expires on Wednesday so I did a side by side comparison of my Spectrum cable box input vs Roku input and the quality was consistently identical. I had the Spectrum TV app going on the Roku but plan on switching to Youtube TV after Wednesday. It also has up to 4x the range as the regular Roku so if you need a longer wireless range (ie. tv in basement, router upstairs), then this would help you get a better signal. It was $59 so a little more but I needed the extra range and .11ac support.

The best Roku is the box! I think it's normally around $99. However, last year I got it around Christmas or New year's for half price from the Roku site. So hopefully they do that again so I can get another one. Right now I have one of the boxes and two of the steaming stick+. The boxes remote has a place to put in head phones if someone is trying to sleep which is nice. It seems to just work the best for me but I think the stick+ works just fine as well.

Aug 26, 2019, 11:32 AM

I pay less than you and can get unlimited simultaneous streams in my house via charter's app.

But... I can't take charter app anywhere. Most of the channels only the charter app only work on my charter wifi.

I have to use the individual channel apps, like espn, amc, discovery...etc when I leave the house.

I also have never had a DVR.

that is a good deal if it works for you. It wouldn't work in my situation. You didn't mention the number of TVs that you have at home, I have 5. While never more than two or three are playing at the same time, two is fairly frequent. I am a remote browser, so I move from one channel to another frequently and am not sure how well I would get accustomed to in and out of individual applications. How many cable boxes do you have? We use DVR a bunch.

5 TVs for me as well..1 cable box... so 4 stream

Aug 26, 2019, 12:15 PM

$100 for internet and tv. If I drop tv, my internet goes up at least $10.

No dvr..no accn. I have the select package but I'm on an older pay deal. They want $50 to move to the new select package.

I can upgrade my current package to silver for $20.

Swapping to youtube would be $10-$15 more.

Accn isn't worth even $5 more to me right now.

We did have to switch to comcast internet (at time we had Att and it wasn’t strong enough). Interface is easy to use and I don’t miss cable at all. The only channel I notice we don’t have is weather (May miss Jim

Thanks for the info.

I'm amazed that comcast doesnt realize how dumb they are being. Im a somewhat old guy, who has resisted these streaming networks because from my perspective it still looks very messy having to have extra devices and several subscriptions to get the channels that I have now (except ACCN). However, having to go to a bar surrounded by GT geeks (Im in ATL) to watch the Tigers may push me and many others to dive into the streaming mess. And once Im gone, they have lost me forever. Makes no sense to me.

Also the ACCN will be a failure if they dont get the max viewership, how can the Conference sit by and let tens of millions of viewers be left out?

You are sooo right in the first part of your post . They know not what they do. They are losing people that will never be back . Streaming is the absolute way of the future and 5G is coming and they will all be servicing a dying market . This was not the case when SEC launched streaming was not the real option that it is today .

I am lucky that I can get dsl, cable, or fiber in my neighborhood.

Dsl is slower than cable internet.
The fiber was way more expensive than cable.

With today's liveTV streamimg apps , it takes about 25Meg internet bandwidth per stream. That is really not much for most people. I am amazed at how far the ability to cache and show HD video has come.

For those considering cutting the cord. You really should be fine with 100M megabyte high speed service. That is pretty close to the minimum that is offered from most high speed providers today ( I think) . With 100 Meg service you should be able to watch three different streaming shows simultaneously with out buffering problems.

If you are going to be doing heavy computer work or you have live gaming going on while yo are trying to use your three video streams, you might want to get 300 meg. But serious gamers want all the speed that they canget anyway.

What does your internet cost

Internet cost me 44 dollars per month with TDS . I would have internet if I had no TV service however

$44 for what speed?

TDs is one of the few fiber providers.

TDs is one of the few fiber providers.

true fact and I previously had their 1 gig fiber service , for my home office . I have dropped all the way to their 300 meg service and see no difference with YouTubeTV performances. I had a sniffer on it at one tome and the stream was taking 25 meg of my 300 , with one tv . I am allowed 3 streams simultaneous. So I guess that would be 75 meg

300 for $44 is really good.***

55 utube plus 20 philo plus 75 internet service equals just another cable service with the mental price and irritation of commercials. Never again. Football at a sports bar is better

My internet is 47 and my YouTube TV is 55 after tax and I use it in Florida and in TN on the same account only limited by simultaneous streams. I don’t need Philo so I don’t have it , those that do should be comparing to there 200 dollar cable and directs bills. Is 107 and I have never been happier . Two years ago it was 235

@essoclub2, what kind of roku streaming stick is best? When I search on amazon it gives me like 50 different options.

I got the 4K premium+ stick from Walmart . I have used more expensive and less expensive at friends and relatives houses . By the way when I put it in my grandmothers house for her two story home basic wireless internet and four TVs I used the 30 dollar cheap ones from Walmart and all worked fine . I bought from Walmart becAuse they were same price and wanted to be able to swap them if I had an issue . If you have hard wire Ethernet to your tb locations the more expensive boxes allow you to use an Ethernet cable instead of wireless .

Best move I have made recently is to fire Direct TV for YoutubeTV. Two Roku boxes and one Roku TV. More to follow.

I'm switching to Playstation Vue most likely by the end of the week. I'm outside the ACC footprint, so no dice for ACCN on DirecTV.

My wife's big on Hallmark too, but rather than Philo, you can supplement YouTubeTV with Hallmark Movies Now for $6 a month.

Not to change your mind , but I was “almost” sure that the ACC network was national on Direvtv . As a matter of fact a friend has it in Scottsdale AZ on directv

I respect your opinion, and am glad that you have what you need, and I am very glad Spectrum is offering the acc network, and that some of that money will make it to Clemson.

EssoClub2...where are u located?
I'm in Lexington and would pay good $ for someone to come over and set me up. I'm getting there in years and have no interest in trying to learn most of the new technology. However, I'm tired of Direct TV burning my behind for every $ they can. My only concern is continuing to have MLB Extra Innings package.
If you're interested in this or have a friend in my area, I'd GLADLY pay for your experience and knowledge. TIA

Sorry my tiger friend , but I am in Tampa . Btw I am a bright young 58 year old. It really isn’t a tough process , but I can’t believe that there are not a few tiger fans on here from the Lexington area that might come hook you up. You will need a wheelbarrow to haul all the directv junk that you het to remove when you move to streaming . My 80 year old mother is switched as of 6 months ago and loves it. She has 4 TVs in her home all with roku devices .

We even got her a roku to use on her Samsung smart TB so that she would have the exact same menu o. Each TV.

Good luck !

I agree. I went to You Tube a few days ago. With Directv Now I couldn't get my local channels in Augusta. Now I can and wherever I travel including my house on Lake Oconee. More channels and cheaper. Works great too.

What say you? TIA

Depending on which version of the fire stick or Roku

Aug 27, 2019, 11:35 PM

Device you buy , you can absolutely stream any 4K content that is delivered in 4K in 4K . There are Roku starting at 39.00 at Walmart that stream 4 k . I don’t know if any , many, or just a few will ever be delivered in 4K . And some will argue that 720p is better than 1080i. Quite franklly my eyes are not good enough to tell the difference between the two . I know I have as good or better picture than I ever had on Directv or Cable on avSsung 65” the using a roku stick.

I have just been sharing what about found out for myself , i hope everyone finds a service that they are happy with and that fits their budget .

Go tigers !
