Coaches leave Alabama all the time.

This just means Clemson is a premiere coaching destination on par with Alabama now. We had better get used to it.

How will Dabo respond? It will be interesting to see.
This is a huge blow for us.

Yeah but this Dabo's first real challenge to what Saban goes through on a yearly basis. Saban has the defensive mind already. I think Dabo is more inline to need legit coaches on each side of the ball to stay on top. The name Clemson now should pull any top name tho

Bama pulled Bill O'Brien as their o-coord. granted he ruined houston but still has NFL head coach on his resume. doubtful dabo can pull someone at that caliber. especially with this concept of extreme loyalty running around in clemson coaching circles.

True but I think it's different at BAMA. They pretty much get whoever they want in terms of recruits and Saban isnt particularly concerned with culture. He's all about winning and who he brings in mirrors that philosophy - see Lane Kiffin, Jeremy Pruitt, Sark, Bill O'Brien, etc - none of them exactly "culture" people, i.e. folks you want to spend the holidays with.
At Clemson, it has to be a fit which is good but definitely not the same as BAMA so the comparison is difficult, i.e. Dabo aint takin what Nick takes period. It's worked for us so far. That being said, losing BV is huge, no doubt as there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of "fits" outside the Clem family anymore.

Clemson maybe a premiere coaching destination, but we are not on par with Alabama. But hey nobody is.

That's because Saban doesn't look at his program as a

cradle to grave coaching development program. Saban doesn't typically promote position coaches to coordinator and then back-fill his position coaches from analysts and GA's already on staff at Alabama. Saban likes to bring in former head coaches and position coaches with lots of outside experience and spread them throughout his program. He loses a lot of coaches to other programs this way and his culture doesn't have as much of a "family" feel to it but one cannot argue with his results...
Dabo, on the other hand, has made Clemson into a developmental program in almost every facet - from the way he fills player vacancies (recruits vs using the transfer portal) to promoting within to fill coaching vacancies. If Dabo follows his trend, one can expect any potential DC and/or OC position to be filled from one of our position coaches, then have our position coaches vacancy filled by a GA or analyst already on staff. He seems to have the philosophy of growing coaching talent from within and then promote to a higher position when a vacancy occurs. When was the last time Dabo fired any coach on staff and went outside the program for replacement (Kevin Steele 10 years ago?). Time will tell if this is a good strategy or if it starts a downward trajectory for the program.

this approach also creates and establishes loyalty to the school and the head coach. It's exactly how Dabo views the transfer portal. It doe assumes that the staff coaches etc are capable and qualifed to take the next step.

At present, due to lack of turnover, there is no evidence to suggest that we're a "premier destination" for coaches-

This will be a new era for Dabo. CBV may be the one "family member" he couldn't afford to lose.
The timing is also terrible and could gut this recruiting class.
Need to make a quick hire but, more importantly, they must get it right.
Not good times. Let's see how it plays out.
