Tampering officially arrived in college football this offseason, leaving coaches to both lament the current state of the game -- and try to keep up.


Clemson coaches and recruiting refuses to pay and play the game and thus will try to offer players who want to be here and will not commit without agreeing to do no more official visits. The low amount of offers put out makes our team’s intentions to commit to the player as well, clear. Less chance that a player will later fall to tampering. See ESPN article. The reason why there is no investigation IMHO is because the SEC would fall apart from sanctions.

That is a sad article. What a mess this sport is becoming.

As I keep saying, most of it holds no interest for me these days. I love Clemson and I love the culture and program that Dabo has created, but college football gets about 10 or 11 games out of me per year...Clemson games aside from the Furmans and other weak opponents. I suspect once Dabo's gone that won't even hold...I don't watch Clemson basketball anymore.

I kinda feel your pain.
In the day was a HUGE fan of pro sports, now don't keep up or watch games.
Sadly college sports are becoming more like pro every year. That is due to $$$.

A fun part of my life is college football. I keep up with it all year, search for any mention of it. I like to watch most teams, including high school. I am surprised how my old heart survives some CLEMSON games --> great fun! I tend to place exaggerated importance on it all due to the fact it is not important.

I hate to see it changing.

That's a very good and informative article. It also illuminates something that has of late bothered me a little about our recruiting of LBs. In no way am I suggesting we're being dishonest, but we're telling an awful lot of LB recruits that they are like Isaiah Simmons and would fit in that hybrid spot. I don't know how many we've recruited with that pitch, but from the remarks of the recruits, it seems like a lot. I'm sure we could use 2 or 3 with that talent on the team at all times, but I don't think very many will see the field and the ones that don't would probably be prime candidates for the portal.
