Now that we are ushering in a new era of 1950's

social and political conservatism, I was just thinking of all of the things i am going to miss, short skirts, color television, sex on the first date, trips to the planned parenthood clinic, and of course beej's. I also assume anil will be out and likely one of the first things legislated back into the closet among the homosexuals, cross dressers, and drug addicts.
Regardless, if this is what it takes to save america, I am on board. And I also must give thanks to all of the brave conservatives that made this happen, you stuck to your guns and will be rewarded by shaping our future into the past.
I am headed down to the soda shop if anyone wants to join me, I heard that Wolf Man jack is in attendance and there might be square dancing.

The prosperity was due to war time economy. Depression was finally killed by WWII and that boon lasted till in the 50s and 60s. GI bill did as much to foster the middle class as anything. Sorry, but the causality you claim does not exist.

Not that people need to be giddy about it, but the data as there.
Trump's win isn't indicative that conservatives are stronger than ever. Plenty of Obama supporters voted for him due to Hillary's inept campaign. Voter turnout was terrible for two #### candidates. A lot of factors came into play. Trump didn't even get the majority of the popular vote. And many have expressed their regret of voting for him now that it's over.
Besides, Trump's not even a true conservative, so that's not good evidence.
GOP majority in Congress? That simply followed our nation's trend of voting against the ruling party once the president comes into power.
Toss in some fun gerrymandering over the years as well.
The Boomers are dying off, and they are strongly conservative. The white majority is slowly dwindling and will become the minority by the 2040s. Millennials are the first generation in U.S. history to identify as majority liberal.
Sorry, man. All the data points to conservatism as we know it is slowly fading. The last two election results don't disprove that.

Millennials may identify as majority liberal, but does their behavior really reflect that? The rise of things like Uber, Airbnb, etc. point to a desire for less government regulation and interference. Most of my more liberal friends and family slowly but surely have tempered their bleeding hearts as they get older and incomes rise. My big time Bernie buddy was just bisching to me about his new F-150's property taxes the other week. I just had to laugh.

All roads lead to conservatism eventually. We don't like people touching our ####### money, especially the government. The more you make, the more you want others to #### off when it comes to messing with it.
But when it comes to the social issues in our nation, we are on a hard, fast track to liberalism. Look at all that has changed in just 10 years.

You can be socially liberal and still believe in fiscal conservatism. Like me. I want people to have the freedom to live their lives and have all rights afforded by the Constitution, but I'm tired of the increased government spending, taxation, and waste.

I'm talking about social liberalism. LGBT rights. No torture. Smoke a joint.
What you described deals with fiscal issues, and I recognize that those have big price tags on them that make them unrealistic. I'm against wasteful, increased spending. Like a bloated military budget and building a pointless wall.

definition of liberalism no longer applies to many who call themselves liberal....but I don't think that ideology you're talking about is what's being pushed by Democrats and liberals in 2018. I'd say that stance would be considered more conservative or libertarian, and maybe I should have used libertarian instead of conservative.
I think most normal people feel that way, but neither party is really doing anything to represent those wishes. Where we may differ is that I see the Democratic party as being the antithesis of that, and Republicans are just kind of wishy washy do nothings that at best I can hope won't do anything too drastic to wreck my wallet or lecture me about some diversity/SJW bullshid.

That was made very evident when the Tea Party people were elected and proceeded to spend and spend after taking big money donations.

Was that the individual (you and me, all the rest of us) eventually follow the path to conservatism economically because of what it does to us with our personal finances. Our politicians, however, are another story.

It's funny that everyone on this board just accepts as fact the notion that you get more conservative with age.
Personality traits tend to remain stable through your lifetime. There is some research that suggests people are less open to new ideas and are more bigoted as they get older, but that doesn't mean liberals become conservatives.
Most of the reason for the shift is generational replacement. It's the same reason young people are taller than old people - - old people didn't get shorter, the new generation is simply taller than the last one.
Someone who is more liberal than his peers at 20 will generally be more liberal than his peers at 50.
