I don’t understand the Jordan Davis stuff.

Aug 30, 2021, 9:35 PM

Obviously he is huge and I’m sure he’s good but I am reading these comments about how DJU should be afraid of him. He had one sack last year. I assume his role is more of a “Thou shall not pass” run blocker, right? 340 pound linemen don’t chase down QBs, right?

I don’t either. I’m hearing all this world beater stuff. Can’t say that it’s based on past performances.

I agree. I don't know if it's so much about him; I think folks are looking at center for us!

People "slay me though"! The whole HUNH concept is lost on them. If it somehow snows in September then Davis will be good to go. But, it's going to be nothing less than humid. Probably hot and humid and unless Clemson doesn't get a 1st down he will be in lots of trouble by the mid part of the 3rd qtr.

Hold tight and one of our resident dawg fans will explain it to us all….

All they have on their roster are 5 star superstars …
Which explains their multiple national titles….

Honestly don't expect humidity to be any less of a factor

for us.

Jordan is from Charlotte, no? Athens is just as humid as Clemson.

I'm not seeing an advantage for either team. They've both practiced in, and are conditioned to the heat and humidity.

I watched 3 UGA games recently and he is really good. He may not get sacks, but he pushes the pocket and helps their DE’s out a lot. Reminds me of Wilfork. He landed on a couple runners and they weren’t the same afterwards.

He’s pretty much eating double teams the entire game too.

Just scheme the plays where it will be hard for him to do much of anything but wear himself down for a couple of quarters, then send the plays right at him!!!

Run stuffer , middle clog type of guy . He's gonna usually occupy 2 , he's an advantage to have there but as far as pass disruption and that type of play he's nearly no factor at all .

Yeah but that one sack was an SEC sack, that's like 4 regular sacks.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm guessing he's good at stuffing the running game

Aug 31, 2021, 9:30 AM

but not so much at rushing the passer and I bet he gets tired quickly and plays less than half of the game.

He's built like the prototype traditional nose-guard. He does the dirty work battling double teams to help free up his teammates, so his value doesn't show directly in the box score. With that being said, his value certainly skews to stopping the run vs. getting after the QB in the passing game.

Here's a quote from him about his idea of doing a good job:

“I actually look at the linebacker stats, because I know that if the linebackers get a lot of tackles that means I’m doing my job right. I always say, Two on me, somebody’s free. Usually when the linebackers make a tackle for loss, it usually goes with something on the D-line.“

Thanks. That’s a great quote and a great attitude for

Aug 31, 2021, 10:28 AM

a D Lineman to have.

Like I said, I’m sure he’s good but I had read some comments about our young QB fearing him and it didn’t make sense to me. Hopefully we have some schemes that keep him moving and wear him down or get the ball to our RBs that lessen his influence. We shall see!

Aug 31, 2021, 11:02 AM

Yeah, he probably won't directly sack or hit DJU unless it's a QB run up the middle, but that doesn't mean he won't indirectly affect the passing game.

The theory would be that by helping to stifle the run game, Clemson becomes one-dimensional, thereby allowing LBs that are more adept at rushing the passer to pin their ears back a little more than they might normally do so.

As you mentioned, Clemson will most likely try to use the RBs on the edge and in the screen game as an extension of the run to help the gain some yards on the ground. It seems the inside zone run game will be some pretty tough sledding.

I think if Clemson goes fast....really fast....we'll see a bunch of "SEC Cramps". If that happens, stick a fork in the dawgs

Re: Thanks. That’s a great quote and a great attitude for

Aug 31, 2021, 11:14 AM

Maybe. I honestly can't say that I have seen UGA do the fake cramps thing during Smart's tenure.

One thing that UGA does do is heavy rotation in the front seven to help keep fresh legs in there. Nakobe Dean will probably be the only guy in the front seven that plays every snap.

Jordan isn't a pass rusher, he's a 6'6" 340-350lb run stuffer who takes up multiple blockers.

He's usually not on the field in pass situations; however, he's surprisingly athletic for a guy his size.

Will be interesting seeing him up against the weakest part of Clemson's offense though, the middle of the O-line. G/C/G

What you aren’t considering is that Clemson is likely to throw any ANY given down. You can’t just save Davis for 3rd and long. Don’t count on Clemson doing the traditionally stupid SEC thing of just lining up and butting heads either. We won’t just try to run through a brick wall snap after snap in an BV effort to wear a your defense down. Oh we’ll wear it down alright……by making you move the brick wall snap after snap.
