that far off the line on the Tenn Tech double? Shouldn’t he have been protecting the line to prevent this second and third situation we are now in?

Right handed batter doubled well inside the third base line. Thought our 3rd baseman was playing to far off the line. Maybe I’m wrong. I was always taught to guard the line especially in late innings.

I still don't know if there were runners on base before the double. I see where the double gave them 2nd and 3rd. Nonetheless up 5 runs you are more concerned with getting the batter out and not worried about giving up extra base hits. If it's a 2 run game and runners are on 1st and 2nd then yes you guard the lines. Up 5 runs just play regular defense

Oh ok I got ya now. Up 5 runs with a runner on 1st doesn't warrant guarding the lines. If he was the tying run then yes guard the lines and make them get 2 hits to score him.
