Talk me off the ledge.

I am the happiest Clemson fan you ever saw. We're in a great place, I couldn't be more excited about the future of the football program, and that's not about W/Ls, but yes that too. And that's including the current staff and players. I'm all in. What follows is about this year only.
I want to be excited about seeing what we expected from the offense. And over on the mangey side of town there are a million ideas about what to fix: plays, qb's, rb's, schemes, you name it. None of us can know. But forget specifics. I'm trying to remember a time where a team significantly changed its spots over a season, and I can't think of one. Every team and every year I can think of where there was a significant showing in Game 1, good or bad, that was the theme for the year. Coaches talk about "checking the film" and "fixing the issues", but it seems that what you got in Game 1 is what you got in Game 10. I can't think of an exception.
I am not here to defend that point. I can be convinced. But history tells me that we'll be getting 3 yards per carry against decent defenses all year, and we will not be finding open wr's. As a fan, this year is going to be about watching for development that can lead to a new team next year, not a dramatic turnaround this year.
Sell me.

Top 5 teams are I guess fluid, but also to a degree

finite.
We ain't playing any more of them until a potential ACCCG or beyond.
I think the key is to develop and get experience, hopefully win 'em all, then play the exact same game as in game 1 with 2 exceptions:
*Don't throw a pick 6 *Find the end zone at least 1 time.
Tigers win 10-3 and everyone is happy.

I think we prolly lose one more game, State, BC, Pitt, or FSU.

I feel like we normally start slow, am I wrong?

2021 - L 10-3 to #5 GA
2020 - W 37-13 to WF (is that a good win?)
2018 - W 28-26 against A&M....yeah KB played some, eventually destroyed Bama in the title game
2017 - W 14-6 vs #12 Auburn (KB at qb)
2016 - W 19-13 vs unranked Auburn (won the natty later)
2015 - W 20-17 vs unranked Louisville (lost to AL in the natty and had a chance to win)
Looks like we improve every year. So if we play with the #2 team (now) in the country in our first game and only improve from there (like normal as seen above)....we gonna be alright.

I think so too. And in the champeenship years we improve

across the season, especially last few weeks.
But to OP's point, we are needing significant offensive improvement, probably more than we've seen. Maybe we could get that considering we have lots of young players.
But that defense is seriously nasty and will win a lot of games.

We played our worst offensive game in a long time

and only lost by 7 to the 5th ranked team (now 2nd).
It was one of the best defensive games we've had, and we've had a lot of great defensive games.
A lot of the issues with the offense can be corrected, although with those corrections we probably don't have a great offense.

devolve into fanboy whining - I did that all Saturday night and Sunday - I would say that this is a really bad year to have the wheels come off on offense. We have a championship defense, no question.
Turn the O around, we're a great team. I just can't remember seeing that happen, by anyone.

Here goes. Game one is now what you see is what you get.

Now, game 2 sure can be. In this case I don't think we will learn much on Saturday, unless our o-line can't block those guys. Then we know we have a Jimmy and Joes issue. Stay calm, enjoy the weeks, and if this group can manage to win the ACC but get shutout of the playoffs, oh well.

I'll take a shot.
While I agree "you got what you got" ad far as personnel, offenses are always slower to develop than defenses. All that talk about "opening the playbook", while some hogwash, is also somewhat true. More time to develop wrinkles in your bread and butter plays, more time to design a few situational plays, and more time to sort people into the right spot.
That being said, I think we run the table with talent, show some real improvement over the season, then get totally exposed in the playoffs over the same issue we got exposed on Saturday.
So put on a happy face till we are embarrassed again in January!

When the team has had the type of success we've had, it's very easy to get spoiled. We aren't gonna make the playoffs every year or even win the ACC or the Atlantic division every year.
My totally non expert self thinks the OL will improve, DJ will improve, but unless DJ is capable of being a threat as a runner, it could be a tough year based on what we've been used to.
I do love the way the D played. We have a very nasty D. We'll still win a lot of games, go to a good bowl, but if we were to make the playoffs, we are not competitive with Bama.

Based on week 1, who is going to compete with Bama?

The UGA team that squeaked out a win against us?
The Ohio State team that struggled with Minnesota?
The Oklahoma team that beat Tulane by 5 pts?

Georgia probably is really good,

and Clemson won't be facing any other teams nearly as good. They'll win the rest of their games and make the playoff, when maybe they'll play better against a really good team.

So far, DJ might be the worst QB since Kyle Parker. I would venture to guess that Kelly Bryant would have won vs UGA given his mobility and ability to throw semi accurate short passes.
DJ has a ton of room to improve.

History also says Dabo and his team tend to correct problems rather than spinning their wheels Tommy Bowden-style. The offense looked ugly, but I trust they'll fix it. I think we should just temper our expectations regarding the playoffs this year.
We also faced one of the best defenses in the nation and we showed that we also have one of the best. I'd rather have that than the best offense. IMO, offensive problems are easier to fix.
They'll figure it out. After all, look at all the hardware they have.

We had a really good defense and a QB named Stoudt. Got sacked alot, threw picks, and then when our bowl game against Oklahoma came along, played like Tom Brady. I'm hoping for the same improvement this year, just sooner.
Our D is going to keep us in any regular season game.
Go Tigers!!!
