criticism of Tony. Just a fact. In 2016 they were our Co Offensive Coordinators. Tony sat in the press box and called plays down to the sideline. Jeff was on the sideline. In the National Championship game, with six seconds remaining, Tony called down a high pass to our best receiver (cannot remember who he was...Higgins, Williams ???) in the left corner of the end zone. Jeff Scott rushed to Dabo and convinced him to change the call and throw it to Hunter. I heard Jeff say this.

I do, too.

Argued with a neutral fan about it, too. Any pass to Williams would have resulted in DPI and an expired clock and an untimed down—if the refs called it. And Dabo would have had to use the down to kick the FG and put the game into OT. Or, risk using his one play the way he should have in the first place.

But with Bama in Man Press coverage, the rub play was the perfect call, so long as Tay Scott—whose technique was always phenomenal—allowed the DB to initiate contact and create a legal pick.

Artavis had 3 TDs called back that year due to illegal blocks by other WRs. However, his blocking never resulted in anyone else losing a TD. He was the ultimate teammate. Tay was not the tallest, fastest, or shiftiest, but his technique was impeccable.

And since then we got toe drug by Bama, LSU and OSU. With TE calling ALL of the plays.

Fact!
I recall the story as well just as you said! However, if you tell it, tell it all! Tony got the team in position to be close enough to make a play that close to the goal line.
The fact is; they worked well together and prior to taking over as Co-OC's they game-planned for Chad Morris! This part is not being talked about enough; who is doing that for T. Elliott? Is it good like when he and Scott did it? When you game plan you talk all week about the type of down and distances that you think will work against their personnel groupings. They would have talked about the play they didn't run and the sprint to the corner "AS A GROUP"! It was decided as a group and called after a group discussion!
Any leader knows there is no shame in not always overruling a decision a team member makes! If it's a idea you didn't think of; it doesn't make you weak for doing it. Instead it shows you get it and want what's best for the team - not for your ego!

Elliot was an elite co-coordinator. On his own maybe not so much.

Do you remember the days when Scott was at Clemson and we used to see crossing patterns in the middle, skinny posts, deep posts, WRs (not TEs or Slots) coming across the middle 5 - 7 yards deep (i.e. Tee Higgins), TEs running corner routes, and other innovative passing plays. Those were a big part of getting down the field every game.

Co-OCs means sharing the duties. Having a former WR and RB sharing the OC position opened up 2 points of view and when meshed was potent. Just because T.E. sat in the booth, doesn't mean he was making all the calls with only a few exceptions. Sometimes the perspective of the situation at eye level from field level is more valuable than seeing it all from overhead by exposing some of the "eye candy".

But then I go back to BC and ND last year and wonder where are the routes and passing with DJ. Where's Kamala when you need a good root cause done - right!
