Swinney calls for "rowdy crowd," Clemson to honor Bowdens

Clemson hosts Florida State for a 3:30 p.m. broadcast start on ESPN Saturday in Death Valley.
Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney acknowledged the divisional rivalry matchup isn't what it's been over the last decade, but he says his team will need a boost from the crowd to get back on track.
"I know Clemson and Florida State -- the records aren't for either team what you're used to, but it's still dadgum Clemson and Florida State," Swinney said on his call-in show. "This is a very important game for a lot of people...We're looking forward to a great day in the Valley...We're going to need our crowd. Our crowd has been there all year and they've made a huge difference for us. With this team, every game is down to a few plays and this will be another tough challenge for us. Our crowd will make a difference for us, no doubt. Looking forward to a great day."
Clemson will honor the late FSU great Bobby Bowden, and former Tigers head coach Tommy Bowden will also be celebrated, said Swinney.
"I certainly wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him. If I wasn't here, CJ Spiller wouldn't be here and there's a lot of things that probably wouldn't have happened around here," said Swinney. "I think it's a great opportunity to not only recognize the contributions of Bobby Bowden to this conference and this game of football and just the Clemson-Florida State game but also a time to recognize coach Tommy Bowden being a part of it. It will be a great day. Hopefully we will have a rowdy crowd ready to go and let's get after the Seminoles."

The fans/team relationship is a 2 way street. Let's work on having a rowdy offense to get us fans back on track.

For all it’s worth, Tommy Bowden did set this whole thing in motion for us. Bobby was a great man and it’s wonderful that we are doing this for a very special family

Agreed. Both Tommy and Bobby were big parts of our journey.

As much as we didn’t like getting our butts beat by FSU all those years, the chase was fun.
Bobby’s teams showed us what it looked like to be great, and that matchup was the most anticipated one every season (as I recall). It was always a measuring stick for our program, and each time brought new hope that it might be our year to finally get them.
Then it was fun when we finally did catch and surpass them. In recent years, it felt like we had become what FSU used to be…and maybe even better.
Tommy moved our program forward, even though there were some frustrating times along the way.
And then of course he brought Dabo back into coaching and was instrumental in giving Dabo a shot at replacing him.
Thanks Bobby and Tommy Bowden.
