Support our Tigers as much as you can but realize the recession is

Sep 27, 2022, 11:17 PM

here maybe till this time next year so plan to take care of yourself and family first.

Inflation is being stated around 8-8.5% but it's really well over 10% which can fool you awhile b/4 you realize your spending takes 10% more $ for same amount of goods, and the supply train of needed goods & parts "may" get worse.

Saying, be wise & astute with your spending in the coming months and year as I have last two years with no trips to DV (Covid being an issue too) and none probably this year. The TV set at home (or at a local Clemson Club Game Party at a restaurant/bar which I've done several times) shows you the game, replays & high-lites amazingly well.

The big buck days for me with 4 season tickets @ DV and actually owning 2 seats @ Panther Stadium with my name displayed on a wall or animal statue outside both stadiums as a donor or patron are over and while it was fun for dozens of years, I miss it very little now.

Good luck younger & financially able Clemson Tigers since it's your turn to keep the wheels turning, as I did for over 50+ years and yes it was great fun & I made many super memories with family & friends, as you will.

Go Tigers!

PS: This isn't meant to be political but same advice I'm taking as well as offering to my two grown children who are doing very well but who still spend, travel & buy like crazy.

Right there with you LBB. It's real. Groceries and gas really putting a damper on extra activities. Outrageous. Stay safe my friend. Looks like you got a storm headed your way.

You nailed the situation and change of being there in person, Bill. The $cost and energy demands of inertia for older Tiger fans, have made it more acceptable to watch and enjoy from the comforts of home.
It does not lessen our devotion and support of the Tigers, but there comes a point where the baton needs to be hoisted by a younger group of Tigers. No shame in to being an avid Clemson fan away from the live competition. GO TIGERS!

I wonder how much TV is changing fans relationship with their school? I remember hanging around the house growing up listening to the games on the radio playing loud enough to be heard in several rooms and just outside. We had to wait for the coaches show on Sunday to actually see any highlights from the game. All we had was Jim Phillips description of the plays. Yes it’s very expensive now but there were tens of thousands of diehard fans that couldn’t get to many games then as well. Anyway I wonder if the modern fans are a little detached because they digest the games through “impartial” TV announcers instead of their homer play-by-play man.

When you sow good seed you don’t experience Recessions

Sep 28, 2022, 3:40 AM

You only live here once so don’t miss out on what could be your last 10 years, 5 years, year, week or day.

Live. Life to the fullest and know Gods economic plan is Recession proof, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be wise with your money he supplied.

I’m expressing my opinion, thanks for the advice Bill but don’t miss out on the best years of Clemson football if that’s what you enjoy, it might not be the same next month, year or decade, enjoy life while you can an live it to the fullest the days are long and the years keep getting shortened.

Let’s go Tigers, the best is yet to come!

I could not agree more with your statement. The greatest gift you will ever receive is the gift of life. If you can’t enjoy every minute of it you are losing out. Far to many spend hours and hours complaining about things far beyond their control. Don’t waste your life being concerned with the gamecocks or Joe Biden or any other outside source. Personally I get a lot of self satisfaction from supporting Clemson University. It gave me a lot. Much more than a political party or any other force!

I’m going to make that long trip to Death Valley as long as I can hold on!

Perhaps I will be forced to eliminate some other things I enjoy because of the expenses involved but it will be worth it to me.

If you get more joy out of sailing your boat or hunting deer or riding your bike …. Do it!

8-8.5% INFLATION MY WET NUTS! I see a lot of grocery items that have gone up almost 100% at the local Wally! I am in North Florida. Can't afford to shop at Publix or WD anymore.I have Navy commissary privileges but produce is out of sight there.

Yep. And never go to a concert again. I mean the music is free everywhere.

For the sake of your cash, no one should ever go the theater to see a movie....You got a wide screen TV and your own popcorn is cheap.

No one with any fiscal sense should ever go to the beach what with traffic, the crowds and the cost of gas.

Golf? Those nice courses are stupidly expensive. Pay to walk and Hit a ball? Are you Fing kidding?

A bar? And you eat out at a restaurant? Steaks are better at home and pasta is a huge ripoff.

The op is really onto something here. Like can be a waste of money. Don't do it.

Not as long as you pay taxes. And with everything else going up, property tax increases are coming.

I get it, but this year is the opposite for me.

Sep 28, 2022, 8:21 AM

COVID really changed my perspective on having life experiences.

First, it highlighted what we all know but usually don't live by - that tomorrow is not guaranteed and the things we take for granted can be gone in an instant.

Secondly, it highlighted the folly of planning. Want to make G-d laugh? Make plans. Anyhow, my wife and I had a long saved for and long planned 25th wedding anniversary trip to Europe that we still have not made. Don't know when that might happen at this point.

So beginning in Fall 2021 I have spent like a drunken sailor on experiences. Two trips to California, a trip to NYC for my oldest daughter, a trip to Maine, our usual beach week, and most importantly, I will be at the Miami game this season, good Lord willing and the Creek don't rise.

As Jim Morrison once said, I'm going to get my kicks before the whole sh*thouse goes up in flames.

Try about 15% to 20% actual inflation. The Feds like to "monkey" (sorry I didn't mean to imply monkey's are not smarter than the Feds) with the numbers to not count this or that in this report and count this and that and not that in another report to come up with a lower average. Put everything together and it's over double what's being reported.
