I'm thinking about sending a letter to the editor

to The Tiger student newspaper about students leaving at halftime. Not necessarily b!tchin and moanin about it, but more along the lines of encouraging the leaders of the Greek students and FCA to rally the troops and get more people to show up and STAY!

Seriously. Did anybody else notice this at halftime? Freaking ridiculous! These kids just don't get it! Deshaun Watson is a once in a generation kind of player to have, and there are only a handful of opportunities to see DW and the boys every fall. The players deserve the support for an entire game...I don't care if "its only App State."

There's no reason these kids cant stay for an extra hour and a half. And it's not necessarily their fault, this is just the mindset of that entire generation. They need a wake up call! We would KILL to be back on campus and see these games from the hill FOR FREE!

I think they just don't get it. I'm an outspoken person, and I believe in the power of the pen. Recruits see these games and have commented before on "how many fans were at the spring game" and how "the stadium was full even though it wasn't a big game." They notice these things.

Maybe if I voice my opinion, somebody will notice...right? What say ye?

No one cares.

Sep 16, 2015, 10:20 PM

The students are going to leave when the game is in hand.

Especially against some crappy team. Now if that's what it looks like against ND...feel free to get your panties in a bunch.

Will do, thanks

You're beating a puddle of blood on the ground that

Sep 17, 2015, 6:58 AM

was once a dead horse.

It was Wofford.

It was app state.

Once again, get back to me after we play a game in DV against a quality opponent.

You are missing my point

Sep 17, 2015, 6:33 PM

I see what you are saying. this is the exact mentality I am speaking out against

I'm not doubting the student section will be full for for FSU, ND, GT, etc. Why can't they stay at least half full against these 2 first games?

Beautiful fall Saturday in Tiger Town at 2 in the afternoon. You mean these kids can't stay an extra 90 minutes?

Gimme a ###### break

IMHO, it's not even the quality of the opponent. Sure everyone is gonna stay for a night game against FSU. But if someone doesn't care enough to leave App state for any length of time, they don't care enough to leave FSU for any length of time (at least in my experience and opinion)

I posted and posted about this for the past two weeks. Thought it was terrible that not only the students disrespected our team but other fans as well. Those kids and coaches work their tales off and deserve better than that. Send your letter.

If that pic is halftime

Sep 16, 2015, 11:53 PM

I got no problem with people using the in/out policy to have a couple of halftime beers.

I've also found myself watching from a TV at a tailgate during the second half. We beat Wake that particular day and made it to ACC Championship. We had tix for ACCCG already and were quite relieved when we heard the stadium erupt with that field goal and watched it on a delay 10 seconds later.

Went to Charlotte stayed entire game and we beat VA Tech.

We've won and lost with me in the stadium. Sometimes sharing it with friends and family outside of DV is just as fun as sharing it in a group of strangers inside.

Not halftime

Sep 17, 2015, 8:05 AM

I didn't go to App State but at the Wofford game, the student sections were all but abandoned after halftime. And I don't mean thinly populated, I mean ABANDONED. They were almost completely empty. It was embarrassing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That was at the start of the 3rd

so yes, some people probably came back in

The biggest problem cannot be solved by any letter or any amount of b!tching. The problem is in the mindset. All of the students (but I'm gonna exclude those here because they prob all don't fit the mold) see the game as gameday and parties and drinking. One of my friends wanted to leave in the first quarter.
It's a mentality problem. Everyone has the mindset of gameday isn't about football it's about tailgating and parties. Now, I personally do both but I never leave a game early. I always run on the field and congratulate my roommate and my friends on the team. No reason not to except to go get drunk(er). That's why all these posts are stupid, nothing will change.

+1

Sep 17, 2015, 6:34 PM

I feel the same way. They will start to understand by Jr and Sr years...hopefully

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Kids these days, at least you will change their mind

Sep 17, 2015, 2:47 AM

and they will see the errors or their ways. Good job! Send the letter ASAP so you can get this fixed before the next home game!

If you're just successful for getting the students there

Sep 17, 2015, 5:04 AM

before the Tigers run down The Hill, I'll be happy.

They're missing the best part of the events that surround the events on the field, and they're making their university look bad in doing so.

Part of the problem is the new online ticketing system. Now all students have to do to get hill or lower deck tickets is log in to a website when their ticket distribution time slot opens up. That means no one needs to make any effort to grab tickets for each game, so fans that used to camp out for tickets, get in the front row, and go crazy cheering for the team have just as much of a chance to get a ticket as random students that want to make an appearance at the game before leaving in the first quarter to drink. That means students are less invested in attending the game and staying in their seats, because all they had to do to get their tickets is click a few buttons. I believe they've also allotted less to IPTAY students (based on some complaints I heard while waiting in the ticket office), so even the ones that pay to get tickets early have trouble getting seats.

On top of that, those of us graduate students with family members (recently graduated wives, brothers/sisters) that have stood on the hill and cheered until we have no voice every game for the past 15 years now only have the option to purchase season guest tickets in the general admission south upper deck student section (previously these were on the hill), forcing us to get tickets in one of the worst locations in the stadium if we want to sit with our guests. Up behind the tree near Gate 1 where you can't see the video board or the most exciting 25 seconds in college football and can't hear the band. That's the student section that clears out at the start of the second quarter and everyone sits the entire game instead of cheering. It's pitiful up there.

Another avenue for feedback about the dismal showing from the student section this year is to email fanfeedback@clemson.edu. They sent that address out in an email to the student body asking for game day feedback, so please let them know you're unhappy with the general apathy of the students at the game this year and let others know to send feedback there as well.

Sure, when that picture was taken in the 1980's you could probably see over the tree. Here's what it looks like as of the Wofford game this season:

This is another big part of it. I like the new system for ease of access but I have complained about what you said since day 1. It used to be that only those who cared a lot got good seats. Now everyone can and does.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

funny how perception is reality

Sep 17, 2015, 10:17 AM

being in a fraternity, i never waited in a line for a ticket and always had one in hand for the lower deck student section.

i guess i never realized how lucky i had it that someone else was picking up the tickets for me.

this new fangled online ticketing system sounds interesting.

i was there from 2000-2004 for time frame reference.

Interesting take. I'm interesting how some here still blame the "frat blocks". They don't really exist anymore. It's no groups fault. It's just the mindset.

2013, I sure hope so. My friends now look at my funny when I say gameday is about football and not just the drinking haha.

Re: I'm thinking about sending a letter to the editor

Sep 17, 2015, 7:03 AM

Until the University cares, nothing will be done about it. They're giving away block seats to student organizations who request them. If they're not using them, then they shouldn't get the seats. There are plenty of folks who would love to buy those seats.

On the other hands, leave folks alone and let them do what they want to do. I'll continue to leave when I want to leave and come back as I see fit. If the policy changes and I can't come back in, then I'll either stay put, or I'll leave and sit at my tailgate and watch the rest of the game on TV.

Instead of writing a letter, you (or if the University, should they care) should come up with a project to give students the incentive to come and stay the entire time. Reward them for being good football attendees.

Did you send an actual letter ? Those are still being used ? By the time it gets read , and the response gets typed up and re-mailed and you get it in your mail suppository the season will be over .

Everyone leaves at halftime. Nobody wants to watch us kill app st. I came back after halftime but none of my friends did. You won't see the student section like that anymore the rest of the season and I can promise you that.

were not free when I was there. In fact, I played in "Tiger Band" and still payed for my tickets. It was added as a fee for the Fall semester. Same for basketball.
