The bag of tricks has run out.

Sep 25, 2021, 2:28 PM

I hope this doesn’t age well, but appreciating business (specifically team building) & the required iterating/evolutions, it doesn’t bode well for Dabo & Co ever rising to a true dynasty status. (Measured on resilience/longevity.)

In line with: ‘What gets you there, won’t keep you there.’

Dabo, I believe, has failed to adapt/elevate his game & continue to surround himself with progressively refined staff talent (see Elliott, Spiller, etc).

Different becomes normal, especially when you no longer have 2 (back-to-back) generational talents at Quarterback. (There doesn’t appear to be a more talented player in the entire nation than either Watson or Lawrence at this point.)

Lightening in a bottle & the cap has started to quickly leak.

I believe a shake up will be necessary to continue Clemson’s ascension to the true dynasty level, specifically with Caldwell & Elliott.

Hate it, love it, don’t care. That’s your right.

Just my $0.02.

and a hinderance. Dabo has shown that he is loyal to a fault at times. But he has also made some hard choices before with players and coaches.
While I understand his position on the Portal, I do think he needs to selectively start tapping it.

Have to be really careful condemning something before you actually can appreciate the ramifications.

Cultures have to evolve.

Saban even suggested the “rich will get richer.”

Alabama’s top 2 players (LB, WR) are transfers. It’s not a coincidence when you get to backstop your downside risk of a touted recruit not panning out with proven transfers.

If Satan at Bama is using the portal, so should we. Both LSU and OSU beat us in the last two
Playoff games with transfer QB’s.

The response can’t be, “We don’t believe in ‘x’.”

The response has to be, “We will do whatever it takes to best serve our football team’s success within the evolving rules of the game.”

There’s significantly more optionality in the second statement.

Dabo has backed Clemson into a corner, and is absolutely being de-recruited against + leaving a ton of opportunities on the table.

It’s simply bad leadership.

He’s convinced himself, his staff, and his players they’re saving the world.

When, in fact, he’s spending $150m a year to graduate 25 of 27 players.

We have to be able to marginalize what we are trying to accomplish if we ever want a chance to continue evolving.

This includes the transfer portal, NIL, and all the changes to come.

But, I digress…

That’s enough for the day. Thanks for reading.

My belief is that if you don't use every advantage of the rules that are in place, you will be playing a losers game, and I do believe that. When your competition is using all the advantages, you better get with it and do the same.

Dabo has made it clear that he didn't care for the transfer portal, and his opinion has been clear about that. But it's time that he uses it to his advantage, and he don't have to like it!!!

Dabo should seek Brownell’s counsel about how to best use transfer players.

This is an area where college basketball is a few years ahead of college football, and Brad has done it very well.

Our basketball transfers have been a good fit with our culture while also helping us win.

Can always count on you for basketball, Judge! ??

Love it.

Agree he seems to do a good job with very little to stand on historically.

Great points Sense. I think you see him make some adjustments at the end of the season and my guess is that the premise behind moving Pearman to his role was to begin the process of learning how to best leverage the portal, while finding transfers that fit the culture.

Some folks don’t give Dabo enough credit and right now he has to deal with the hand he has been dealt until the season is over. Even Saban went through some similar struggles at Bama, but everyone has looked past that.

The hand he has been dealt?

Sep 25, 2021, 3:31 PM

What hand is that?

He hired every one of these coaches and recruited every one of these players. He’s not a victim here.

Just as he deserves credit for the many amazing successes we have had, he is also responsible for the struggles.

The human mind is a curious thing.

Gameday T-minus 45minutes to game time, and your mind chose to craft a soliloquy describing the demise of the Clemson program.

Experience tells me otherwise.

Nah. It’s not demise; it’s unrealized (quickly fading) potential.

Underachieve, verb (indicating action or the lack thereof) - to perform below expectations.

It’s a good vs. great conversation.

Regardless, I’m not here to argue semantics on a Football Forum.

Wishing & hoping for the best for the players today.

I think alot of comments on this thread is spot on. Whether Dabo is loyal to a fault will play out at as the season goes on. He has dismissed coaches before due to lack of production and if this season spirals out of control, I'm sure he'll do it again. I know he wants to win so I have to trust that when he makes his decisions.

I know when he dismissed Billy Napier, that was a big deal for Dabo as they were tight. I don’t think Kevin Steal was all that difficult.

NIL basically legalizes the pay-for-transfer system (which always existed under the table). I just don't think Clemson has the financial and commercial support to be competitive in an outright cattle auction system for free agent players.
