Strike outs

Hot topic of conversation so far through 4 games (even more than 4 WINS) is the amount of strike outs the team has so far.
This list has not been updated yet to include the game from yesterday. With 54 ks in 4 games Clemson is averaging 13.5 ks per 9 innings.
I understand that it is a high number, but as you can see from the list, this is not uncommon. Unfortunately this is a part of baseball these days. Chalk it up to better pitching, wanting to hit the long ball etc. it is what it is.
All I know is this team has talent at the plate as well as on the mound. I think its going to be an exciting season. Go tigers

Cut down on your swing and just make contact, especially with 2 strikes.

Yep, this is the explanation I keep hearing. The analytics have come down from pro ball. It’s a world of shifted fielders and swinging for the fences as a dead pull hitter regardless of the location of the pitch. Sad thing to have to watch. Personally I think it’s ruining a great game that did just fine without all this analysis driven strategy.
Here’s the thing, if it’s supposed to work then how come Clemson leaves tons of base runners on base and struggle to create these crooked innings? Meanwhile, we actually play teams that swing for contact and move runners into scoring position, steal bases, and attempt to bunt. If they weren’t the opposing team I’d actually enjoy what their succeeding at against us. Note my comment is more about what we saw last season that helped us finish with a losing record. It’s too early to know how things will develop this season but the amount of strikeouts is consistent with last year.

SIMPLY AMAZING HOW THE ARMCHAIR COACHING GOOBERS HAVE ALREADY DECIDED WHAT THIS TEAM IS ALL ABOUT AFTER 4 GAMES. 4 GAMES. MAN I JUST WISH I HAD ALL THIS KNOWLEDGE.

Baseball has been a game of numbers and analysis driven strategy since it became a professional sport.
The guys with the best batting average played the most.
The pitchers with the best ERA were considered the best pitchers.
Babe Ruth became a legend because of his number of home runs.
Nolan Ryan is a legend because of his number of strike outs.
The game didn't need all of these data driven machines to become about numbers.
The problem with many baseball fans is that they are unfamiliar with or simply don't understand the "new" numbers.
The arguments have gotten quite ironic actually.
A focus on slugging percentage and OPS is looked down upon by those who idolize batting average.
Defensive shifts and lots of pitching changes are looked down upon by those who thinks it's just about playing good defense and not letting the other team score.
Even further traditional fans are disgusted by the mention of exit velocity, launch angle, velocity and spin rate mostly because they don't understand that those things are just measurements of parts of the game that have been around since its creation.

Multiple times this season, and even during the game last night, Ron Smith (former Furman baseball coach and current TV analyst) made the comment that he has noticed a much more concerted effort for Clemson hitters to make contact and go the other way with the pitch.
I have watched every game so far this season and you can see a noticeable difference in the approach of the hitters. Last year the strikeouts were a result of constantly swinging for the fences. This year, the approach at the plate is much better.
Also, I think the link you have is actually the pitching strikeouts per game, not batting. It shows total games played and innings pitched. Those would be the pitching stats.

https://data.clemsontigers.com/Stats/Baseball/2022/teamcume.htm
This shows Clemson batters have struck out 54 times in 131 total AB's. We also have 38 BB's and 8 HBP. That is 54 k's in 177 total plate appearances, or 30.5% of plate appearances. Meanwhile, our opponents have 48 K's in 134 AB's. They also have 21 BB's and 4 HPB's. So Clemson opponents have 48 K's in 459 AB's or 30.1% of plate appearances.
Also, fun fact. Caden Grice is currently tied with Dylan Brewer for second most K's on the team at 6. In fact, Grice (6), Brewer (6), and Hawkins (8) account for over 37% of the total team K's.
