Streeter called plays DJ could handle

Dec 30, 2021, 10:11 AM

The play calling of Streeter shouldn't be overlooked. He knows the deep ball is not DJ's strength and he called very few if any. This is a good sign for the future. Not setting your players up for failure

How do you know that? How do you know he didn’t call plays based on Iowa states defense. They run a 3 3 5. Basically 8 people playing in coverage. 3 safeties. The whole point is not give up big plays.

The point is I think Elliott would have called a number of deep balls that would have been incomplete or intercepted.

I thought Streeter did a passable job. He was constrained by DJ's limitations and not enough practice time to install a new system. I like that he was just different enough to throw off ISU's defense and the film they had to work with. I would like to have seen the backs run off tackle a little more, it seemed like that was open for them a lot more than the inside run.
Still, I think any potential recruits watching should have been reasonably impressed.

I agree with you on this. Wonder if you saw Dabo get in Shipley's face after the TD? Looked like he was telling him not to break it to the outside... just like he preached to ETN. ETN was better when he was given some freedom to improvise. Look at how his production fell off his senior year. Shipley did not appear to be too happy about the conversation with Dabo... had a kind of "W T F" look on his face.

That's just my supposition after watching the sequence several times, but I could be wrong. JMO.

Not sure but seems like I remember Dago ripping Shipley before the TD. Shipley did look pretty POed though.

My guess is it was the hurdle. With his knee, Dabo could’ve told him take the hit or juke instead of get upended and potentially break his neck… I liked it though lol Wish it would’ve worked a bit more.

Plus, being inexperienced at WR you can't call a bunch of "option routes" where the QB and WR have to read the defense the same way! More than likely they won't be on the same page on those.

I agree with you - he called the game he had to call and did a fantastic job!

I look for the offense to look different as he gets time to really put his hands on it starting here in about a month.

Wrong lol. They had 3 SAFETIES in coverage. Hard to throw the ball deep. I swear some y’all talk about football like you’re a bunch of trophy wives that’s never seen the game before.

plus, you would need an agressive WR who can get open or fight for the ball

Perfectly fine job. Some people just know absolutely nothing about football. You can't revamp an offense in 1 month. You have to find what has worked for you throughout the year and try to get better at that. With a better QB and a year of coaching and practicing you can add wrinkles and put your own stamp on the offense.
