Stoudt Is the Rightful Heir to the Throne!

Jan 5, 2014, 5:34 AM

He has paid his dues. Painfully watched as TB turned the ball over many times. That in itself was a great sacrifice of nerve brain cells. I mean really, how many of us enjoyed watching most of the OB? I was a nervous wreck by the time that game was over. There won't be many nail biters with Stoudt at the helm. No just throwing the ball up in the air at the goal line for Jesus to catch. No throwing the ball to the opposing team after we finally took the lead with just minutes left in the game.
I vote for Stoudt! We will go from flash and dash fumble and bumble, to consistency of pounding the opposing team into submission

I understand what you're trying to say, but this is Football, Clemson Tigers Football with that said no player is given a pass to play with out performance.
One year has nothing to do with the next year
One game has nothing to do with the next game
Matter of fact one play has nothing to do with the next play.
I trust Dabo & The Coaches to play the players that will give the Team an advantage to WIN

How is he out of the pocket? Only seen drop back and pass.

Stoudt's a great QB, but why all the criticisms on Boyd?

Jan 5, 2014, 6:14 AM

First of all, Tajh played in a pass heavy offense. In one of those, you're bound to throw more interceptions than the average team. Not to mention, he's had to play behind an average (at best) offensive line for 3 years. Even then, he's broken just about every Clemson and ACC record there is. Fun fact: you're allowed to have a few picks if you throw for that many yards and touchdowns.

Not to mention, Clemson has a great corps of wide receivers. When you've got a guy like Sammy or Martavis Bryant streaking down the sideline in man-coverage, you're supposed to throw up a lob. In fact, most of those probably weren't Tajh's decisions, but the actual call.

Yeah, I'll agree that Tajh has more a tendency to look downfield than to take safety valves, but if you look the stats he's put up, you can't really argue with it. Not to mention, Tajh is very accurate on the deep ball. He makes you bit your nails, but when you finally spit it our you're happy because we just got a touchdown.

I think Stoudt will be great (if he starts over Chad and Deshaun), but he still has a lot to prove. Tajh Boyd has had a lot of big game experience. He's beaten #20 Auburn, #11 Florida State, #11 Virginia Tech, #5 Virginia Tech, #25 Auburn, #8 LSU, #5 Georgia, and #7 Ohio State. Stoudt has only played in mop up duty with only a few exceptions. Other than blowouts, he hasn't had much real game experience. He played about half of the Boston College game in 2011 after Tajh went out with an injury, he played more snaps than usual in the 2012 Auburn game (since Tajh kept losing his helmet), and he played for the last 20 minutes or so of the 2013 Georgia Tech game (when the game was pretty much already over). Those are the only times he has actually been relied upon. He's responded well, but I think the Georgia game next year will be a huge statement game for him (again, if he starts).

And yes, while I agree that Stoudt is a more conservative passer and will probably take the underneath routes more often, he also has his problems. For starters, he is not as good of a runner as Tajh. Don't sleep on his running ability though, it's still good. However, he doesn't have the speed or the power we would love to have. And while his pocked prescence is great, his awareness could be better. This year, I believe he has fumbled twice due to defensive pressure in the backfield (one of which became a turnover). However, he is a very accurate passer and a good game manager. It should be fun to watch to see if he wins the starting job.

As far as that goes, I don't think Stoudt should be handed the starting job just because he's a senior, he needs to earn it. If Kelly or Watson comes in and plays better, he shouldn't be the starter, point blank. He's a great guy, but I'm sorry, if one of the others smokes our defense in practice, I want that guy in the backfield come next August/September. If all 3 are about equal, Stoudt should get it based on experience (with Kelly/Watson still getting some limited snaps). If Stoudt beats them both soundly, he gets it outright.

And as far as Tajh goes against Ohio State, he had 2 or 3 bad plays, but the rest of the time he played awesome. I find it funny that a guy can make like 80 good plays, but then make 2 or 3 bad ones and everyone always focuses on the bad ones. Against the #7 team in the land, 30-38 for almost 400 yards and 127 on the ground (!) is pretty dang good. I understand a lot of people want a more "conventional" approach to the offense, but Tajh did his job. A heck of a baller, and a class act. He'll be missed.

Jan 5, 2014, 6:32 AM

had a chance to play. I don't see how you can defend TB when he could not beat the Coots. I don't believe when you throw a lot it is a given that you will throw a certain amount of interceptions. Then there were the fumbles. We had the tools and the match up to put os away. The game went needlessly down to the wire

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

90% of Stoudts playing time was mop up duty. Gimmee a break.

Jan 5, 2014, 7:21 AM

Don't you think Morris would have had him on the field more f he was truly all that good. Or do you think our coaches are just bumbling idiots like you?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So if Kelly or Watson is better, you wouldn't play them?

Jan 5, 2014, 7:20 AM

Idiot.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They would have to be a lot better***

Jan 5, 2014, 7:44 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Most of CS playing has been mop up

Jan 5, 2014, 8:01 AM

But remember ...... Most do the time he was playing with our second team line. Receivers etc........ While playing against the first team D.
We will find out soon enough

Re: Stoudt Is the Rightful Heir to the Throne!

Jan 5, 2014, 8:39 AM

The QB position will be EARNED in the Spring...just like all the rest. Yes, Stoudt has looked good when he played, but he will have to be the best QB to lead the Morris offense.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I thought Stout should have transfered

Jan 5, 2014, 8:44 AM

Love to have him, but he is far too good a quarterback to never get a shot at the starting role because he just doesnt quite fit Morris' system. He could have been legendary at another program. I feel for the kid.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, he has Sacrificed a lot and has been a very good sport

Jan 5, 2014, 8:55 AM

the entire time. So it is time to give him a chance to lead the team. If he fails then I wouldn't hesitate to yank him out of the game. This thing of loving QBs even when they are having a bad game has to go. On/off shouldn't be tolerated either

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ridiculous! Whoever earns the job is the........

Jan 5, 2014, 10:39 AM

"rightful heir" to the job. If Kelly and/or the new kid Watson are even with Stoudt by the time the season starts this fall then IMO one of them should be the starter. Why invest time developing a senior QB who's never played to speak of at all when developing one or both of the younger guys would make more sense long-term?

It's too bad for Stoudt but DS needs to do what's best for the program this fall and in the future.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He'll win the job. He's got ice in his veins***

Jan 5, 2014, 11:03 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! Has to earn it in the Spring
