Is it because Will Swinney wasn’t enough of a factor last year?

Most times you have to call what “you think” your players can execute. Unfortunately, we were limited on QB, WR and line play.

It’s Grisham’s fault that all of WRs got hurt. Don’t ya know?

It seemed like the injury bug struck a lot of athletes last year and the year before. COVID related workout restrictions or maybe the virus itself seemed to take its toll. I’m hoping this year will be better.

Agree. more importantly the recruiting has dropped off. We really need a good year offensively to show we can coach, and continue to land elite guys. If not we might as well pull off the band aid and hire a proven offensive coordinator.

Careful, some people here will tell you that recruiting is as good as ever.

Our recruiting *is* as good as ever ... are you following it

so far this year? What part of a Top-4 recruiting class should we be disappointed in?
We are not seeing the WR or RB commits we’d like, but we’re getting great OL, DL this time around.
Last season was a bit down overall, but we signed two top WRs in 2022.
We already have three great RBs on the roster.
So far, we’re getting commitments at the positions we really need this year.

Perhaps you don’t realize that elite teams stockpile talent instead of leaving holes in the roster hoping for the best. We signed two good receivers last year but neither appeared to be truly elite like Sammy or Tee. While we should not be disappointed we should also not be complacent

Not elite??

Wait ... are you saying Adam Randall and Antonio Williams are not “elite” before they ever play in a game?
If you’re going by “Stars” then Mike Williams wasn’t elite and neither was Nuk Hopkins.
I cannot see any reason to say our coaches are being complacent. Last year was an anomaly because we couldn’t get recruits on campus.
We have no particular “holes” in our roster. And 2023 recruiting still has a long way to go.
But the days of being able to stockpile really good players at skill positions are over thanks to the portal.

RB will be a hole soon at this rate.

I do think you're right that we signed two solid WRs last year, especially Randall. However, you'd have to acknowledge that WR recruiting has taken a step back. RB definitely has.

WR and RB taking step back?
Jul 24, 2022, 10:47 AM

Yes, I agree. Recruiting at those two positions needs to pick up.
Right now, I think we’re fine.
RB and WR are both spots where solid freshman recruits can come in and start if there is room on the depth chart.
Right now there is not much room at either position and top players won’t come in and sit.
We definitely need to get really good players at both spots no later than next recruiting cycle.

every year as well.
Shipley I think we be/is special and we can solid back-ups with the other two. But that is RB. We are staring at two years not getting a single top RB recruit. To ignore this is whistling past the cemetery.
There just aren't any WRs on our roster that really scares you though. Ngata and Williams have shown flashes of being special but even Ngata dropped a few last year. We simply do not have a M. Williams, Hopkins, Higgins, Renfrow, Watkins, Old Ross, or even Rogers type on this team right now.
In the past we've had multiple types like this on the same team. You beat the Alabamas of the world with these types.

Some of our WRs need to step up, no doubt ... we have

several guys at WR who came in with Mike Williams/Nuk Hopkins credentials. They need to do it o the field.
And we need to remember that we actually beat Alabama with lightly recruited Wayne Gallman at RB.
I realize you think me a sunshine pumper, but I see our roster as okay at present with some pressing needs shortly down the road.
I think our coaches will identify and sign the guys we need before we really need them.

The coaches seemed to believe that Randall is, but what do they know?

Coaches need time to mature, just as players do. Take

Coach Billy Napier as an example. He wasn't ready to be Offensive Coordinator here early in his career, and Dabo had to make the hard decision to fire a friend. But, I believe, as did the Florida AD and BOT, that he is now seasoned enough as a coach to be successful HEAD Coach in the weaker division of the toughest conference in football. (Although divisions as we have known them are about to be gon-ey, as Operaman would say.)

Listening to that interview I have to agree…nothing original or authentic there. It’s entirely possible that he simply isn’t much of a public speaker and he could be an awesome coach.

I guess you were out of touch last year and you didn't hear our WR group were hurt all year. Do your homework.

But the poor WR blocking
Jul 23, 2022, 9:06 PM

was inexcusable. I understand how many injuries there were, but that group did not have a dog mentality about blocking and that has to be at least in large part attributable towards Grisham’s coaching.

WR route running and blocking fell off…

Hopefully he can turn that around. Haven’t seen multiple Clemson WRs running lazy routes like that in a long time.
