There's a simple fix

make every conference championship game the first round and eff the independents. That leaves 11 teams. Top 5 gets a bye. 8/9 winner plays 1 seed. 7/10 winner plays 2 seed. 6/11 winner plays 3 seed.

That'll take it down to 8 teams. first 2 rounds at home stadiums. If the higher seed doesn't want to host, the lower seed can.

The SEC and Notre Dame will hate that, but who cares. You shouldn't be allowed to win a national title without winning your conference in football.

Agreed--if a team can't win its conference championship, it should not be automatically in the CFP. It seems that the Alliance is holding up the process.

Which is why the Alliance was formed…they are not going to let the SEC run the show…period…what will be interesting to see how long the SEC holds out trying to get 3 or 4 teams in…

I'm sure "the Alliance" has the Commissioner of the SEC shaking in his boots.

No need for him/her to shake in their boots…was a deal done??? Nope!!! Did there seem like a deal would be done by now back in the summer and it would simply be rubber stamped??? Yep…

Enough said…Alliance 1 - Others 0

Y’all’s serve!!!

If money wasn't involved, it would have been this way from the start.

Love the plan except the max games can’t exceed 15 so the regular season would need to be reduced by two games or by one game and eliminate the championship games

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

11 game regular season. 6 games against your division

Dec 2, 2021, 7:24 AM

1 cross division game and 4 games to do what you want with. There’s no reason not to load up with whatever OOC game you want. There’s no downside to scheduling Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan and Oklahoma in a year. A loss to them would not matter except for seeding. If you wanted to schedule 4 MAC teams with a 3 for 1 home and home, so be it. You could possibly play 8 of your 11 games at home plus a possible playoff game at home. Ok, so 2 teams could possibly get to 16 games. I’m sure a school like North Texas would gladly play 16 games for a chance to win a national title.

I get the idea of conference champions getting in sounds good, but the idea of the winner of the Wake/Pitt and Utah/Oregon games making the playoffs or Iowa being 1 win away from a playoff spot is funny to me.

I think things are good with the current way. I seriously think 4 teams is too much this season as the #4 team this year is pretty much going to be which of the teams ranked between 4-6 looks less flawed than the others.

teams with .500 records make the playoffs all the time in the NFL.

IRRC, the Giants were 9-7 the season they beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl.

Just because you think a team is better than another does not mean they are going to win. Put it on the field.

I’m in favor of expanding and doing away with the bowl games…most of the bowls are meaningless anyways. Most of the top draft picks won’t even play in the lesser bowls. It’s a joke

The more you expand the field the more you eliminate biased polls which is where CFB has been forever. Conference champions in an expanded playoff is where we need to go, however we get there and whether or not ND or the SEC like it.

Go Tigers!

I have no pity for ND. The ACC would welcome them in with open arms anytime

I don’t care for Notre Dame and apparently Brian Kelly doesn’t either.

I say they should make it 16 teams so they can get their wish of the entire SEC in the playoffs.

Well, they would only need 14 since Vandy and SCAR really don't matter.

Bowl Games Contracts---TV
Cost to much $$$$$$ at this time to add teams

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dang, I guess the SEC hasn't been able to properly bribe

Dec 2, 2021, 8:09 AM

the Committee members yet. Gotta wait till all that end of season TV money gets distributed, I guess.

Obvious result of the sec expansion and the alliance. The alliance is going to block this from becoming some sort of sec invitational.

Good.. it should stay at 4.
Expansion is just going to water down whats good and create a whole lot of bad.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They should shove expansion back down the SEC's throat

Dec 2, 2021, 4:54 PM

and keep it at 4 teams forever.
