that. I told y’all Shipley was the best RB on the roster this summer but nope….
Phil can be a good back but he is not going to be 1st string if Will is healthy.
It takes Phil 10 yards to get up to speed. Similar to Feaster.

You can compliment one of our players without bashing another.

Let’s read it again

Phil can be a good back, but he has to improve his 0-5 yard acceleration. Phil needs a strong OL to provide a push so that he can get up to speed. IE Wisconsin. Phil would be like Ron Dayne.

We have a slow developing line, so slower acceleration should allow the holes to open by the time he gets there.

Don’t know how good Mafah is until I see some tape. Shipley is the best we got YTD and it ain’t close.

I watched Phil play at Grayson High school the past two years. He is fast and strong. He is the real deal. Will is better, but I can tell you he can be very explosive. In fact he punted last year as well.

I saw him play in a playoff game and he was a man a amongst big time Power 5 players. Everyone here is impatient like a kid under the Christmas tree wanting to open all the presents at once. I’m sure we’ll see him for four games this season. Problem is, no late game leads to show the depth.

Well, with his size he should be the best blocker of all our RBs. Isn't blocking a huge part of being a Clemson RB? At least that is what I have been told over the past 8 - 10 years. I'm also under the assumption that the running lanes will open up eventually and definitely by next season. This is a great opportunity for Phil.
I get the feeling that we land our complete stud in '23.

All of this may be true, but it still does not explain why he did not get carries against SCS, he can play in up to 4 games, I believe, and still redshirt. My best guess is they are/ were holding him until the end of the season.
That being said, Shipley is MUCH better than I thought he would be, however, I would still like to see him take carries up the gut against a team other than GT or SCS who are both weak up front. Shiply had no problem outrunning tech's linebackers, he did not have that much success against UGA, they had him pinned in a corner all night for a number of reasons, one being that UGA's backers were just flat out faster and more physical. Both he and Pace have fumbled 6 times between them, so I am rather shocked this kid has not gotten carries.. I mean Shipley dang near lost the game against tech, but that was more on the coaches. So to say the kid has arrived, when he can not hold onto the ball in a situation like that is well, questionable. I will be curious to see how he does against a more aggressive front like Doran's defense. We will learn a lot about Shipley this weekend. Maybe we will learn something about Mafah.
And I am sick of hearing about spiller not doing a good job here, Shipley and Pace are light years ahead of where they were this spring, that much is evident.
