Coffee.
I’ve been out of the game since I sold Soccerkrzy my road rash generator, and the itch is growing.
Also my daughter has about 2.5 more years at home and years ago (shortly after reading Zen ATAO Motorcycle Maintenance) I promised her a trip down the Natchez Trace and back that she hasn’t let me forget.
Wouldn’t pull the trigger till later in the year, but these are my contenders:
2015+ Ducati Multistrada 1200 S - great all around bike, sporty, but maintenance costs are a bear
2013 BMW R1200RT- last year of the oilhead engine (dead reliable), comfy sport tourer, not as powerful as the duck
2013 BMW R1200GS - my white whale. Always wanted a GS because they’re flat out cool, but probably a touch less practical than the RT. Would be cooler if I lived in Colorado and was hitting fire roads on the reg.

Natchez Trace is great. Ripped through there at about 85mph for 6 hours once. Ended with a speeding ticket in Jackson, MS, but always promised myself I'd go back at about half that speed some time.

There is actually a route I’ve found that is about halfway between Knoxville and Nashville, just on the north side of 40—-very, very similar to the Dragon but you might encounter 2 or 3 vehicles along the whole route.

I wouldn't mind a high maintenance bike. I would never travel on one for the wear and tear on me.
Thus, my choice would be a 1000cc Sportster.

If you want reliable sport touring an FJR1300 is a great option. I have an '08 with about 85K miles and it's been bulletproof. A few mods to help ergos and a few just because I wanted to. Over Christmas I picked an '83 BMW R100 just to have something different. Also easy for me to work on if needed.
Hopefully the pics attach properly

After getting in a pretty bad bike wreck once and suffering from some memory issues for a few decades after...I'll have to be diagnosed with a pretty late stage incurable disease to ever get back on a bike.
Between texters and everyone else generally in the "me first" attitude (I almost got in wreck 3 times going to lunch yesterday), I don't even like driving a car any more.

I had a couple more sport bikes, then later when my dad passed I got his 1100 Shadow. Then I sold it, gave my mother the cash and was just kinda done with the whole bike thing. It was never as fun riding after the wreck and I always worried about wrecking again.
