Staff that should be on the hot seat

Sep 26, 2021, 12:00 PM

1. Tony Elliot
2. Robbie Caldwell
3. Brandon Streeter
4. Lemanski Hall

Bad OC, bad OL, no progression at QB with Trevor and DJ, and under development at DE.

Would like to see all 3 replaced.

Todd Bates as well. Marion Hobby did more with less defensive like talent.

Hell, too me, the entire staff outside of CJ/Tajh, DeAndre McDaniel, Dabo and Brent should be on hot seat.

Why did you leave of CJ? Funny a rb with 3 good seasons and mo attitude problems suddenly has one when CJ arrives. I personally think CJ was a great player, but isnt the same guy anymore. He was the issue with Dixon. And Boyd couldn't read a defense and he shouldn't be anywhere near our QB!!

100% agreed . No issues with Dixon till spiller came aboard. I call BS on that . He was our best back. Coaches have run off melussi and Dixon. Now we have average runnin backs and #### poor O-Line . All coaches need to be held responsible for there screw ups

Streeter made Cole look like a pro-QB… not sure that’s the issue.

Cole wasn’t as talented as DJ5, DW4 or TL16. Brandon Streeter was a bad QB and he was able to coach to another bad QBs level. He can’t coach to the level of talent we’ve had. That’s why they’ve all regressed after their freshman year.

Good grief this is the greatest myth on this board. No Streeter did not make Cole Stoudt look like a pro qb.

Oklahoma’s pass defense was in the 120s, one of the worst in college football. They gave the out routes, quick slants, and anything near the line of scrimmage as free access the whole game. Cole maybe threw 5 balls longer than 15 yards that game. Sure he made a few nice throws, but he made a few nice throws when Morris was here too. With Oklahoma’s game plan I could have thrown for 250 that night.

Really just Elliott. Anyone that came in would want their own staff I would think. I have to give Hall a pass for now. Had some defections and covid issues.

Elliot, CJ and Caldwell at a mininum

Sep 26, 2021, 12:50 PM

The CJ hire perplexed me at the time. No way in hell should that RB room be in such shambles.

I know it’s not realistic to replace entire group of offensive coaches but all of them are subpar in the current position they are in.

Elliot needs to go back to coaching RB’s and never call another play again at Clemson. Boyd and CJ need to politely be shown the door. I am not sold on Tyler at WR coach either.

It’s a very perplexing problem Dabo has and will be interesting to see how he fixes it.

Re: Elliot, CJ and Caldwell at a mininum

Sep 26, 2021, 2:58 PM

No. Elliot doesn’t need to coach anything. Why I’m the world would you want a subpar (being friendly) WR coaching running backs? Our RBs have been talent only after the Spiller, Davis, Ford days.

And we're sure not in the running anymore for quarterback Arch Manning anymore either. Is it just me or does it not seem that as the coaching salaries have steadily increased into the stratosphere, our recruiting has fallen off markedly and so has the coaching, Venables eccepted?

If it doesn't workout at South Florida, Clemson should pay whatever it takes to get Jeff Scott back. He was such a dynamic recruiter and a heck of a lot better play caller. Things really haven't been the same since he left.

Who said? If you are going to assert something as fact, let us in on the source.

I don't know these things but my money would be we are right there in the top two.

We're with you coach, win or tie. Almost none of this was on Elliot. A lot was on DJ, and if he wants to lose some of those endorsements he picked up, just keep playing this way. But he is tentative, not good at three progressions, and his footwork is bad. A lot is on the offensive line, and it looks to me every one of them has bad footwork. It would help if the WRs could consistently catch a thrown football. (Ross not catching the last overtime pass at the flag was inexcusable.) Fact is we have had a great run and are building for another one starting next year. I doubt DJ will be the QB, because he is what he is and there is no miracle cure for what ails him,

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think a change at OL coaching is a must. The last 2 weeks

Sep 26, 2021, 1:25 PM

we have played teams that got much more out of their o-lines that the recruiting "stars" would indicate. That could be scheming to get the best from what you have. But after watching Mitch Hyatt and Jackson Carmen not really seem to get better during their time at Clemson, seems it must fall on the coach. Our talent seems to be improving from the "star" viewpoint, but it's not translating to the field. Gotta change something given where we are on offense and OL coach might be the place to look to upgrade.

So you listed 4, who do you not want to see fired? My gosh, how much more progression would Trevor need than being the #1 pick? Blame the players, not the coaches.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Uh Caldwell should be #1 on that list

Sep 26, 2021, 2:15 PM

It all starts with the oline.... this offense will not get better until we have an oline that can run block.
