Speaking of first beers, what was yours? Full beer only, tasting doesn't count.

No stories about Daddy giving you a tiny sip of his beer when you were 7 years old. My first beer was a Pearl that I snuck from the fridge when I was 13. Parents were entertaining and I grabbed one, ran back to my room, and slammed it while I had Kiss Destroyer cranked up on my stereo. Onkyo receiver, Technics turntable, Harman Kardon HK-40 speakers. Beer tasted god-awful but i drank it all. Thought i was busted by one of Dad'sfriends when i went to put the empty in the trash. I haven't had a Pearl since, but I type this as I am brewing 10 gallons of a dry irish stout that should be ready for St Paddy's day.

Couldn't stand the smell of beer so I avoided it - gave mine away in Nam when they brought freebies out to us.. When in Walter Reed a group headed by a VA admin guy brought in pizza and beer for the guys on my ward. His 17 year old daughter asked him if she could drink a beer with me. Would have been embarrassed if I turned her down after he reluctantly said she could.

Jan 29, 2023, 5:56 PM

my father and older brother would have me run to the kitchen to get them another beer. I probably wasn't much more than 8 or 10 at the time. In exchange, I always got a sip. They thought it was funny because it made my eyes water. It was really fun when several their buddies were visiting, and I got to make numerous trips to the refrigerator for them.

As for the the first full ones of my own, I was 15 or 16 (circa 1978/79) and headed to a KISS concert in Columbia with a group of friends. My best friend had a brother who was a couple of years older than us and he would buy us all the beer we wanted.

Ahhh the memories !!!!

We didnt finished, so we buried the remainder. Dug it up the next day at about 10. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is a funky as a warm Busch......... ( one is funky, the other one isn't)

First full beer was a Hamm's. Dad drinking on the front stoop. He let me try. I slugged it down.

Quart of Budweiser. Back then you could legally buy beer at 18 but there were a couple of small local stores on Johns Island where you could get beer if you looked 15. My brother is 3 years older than me and he was old enough to drive so I was probably 13 or 14. We would drive around the back roads of Johns Island and drink quarts of beer. Another example of why it’s a wonder we survived all the stupid sheet we did as kids.

Hudepohl! Just kidding - didn’t drink that til 1969 visiting relatives in Cincinnati.

First beers were a case of PBRs bought in ‘66 from Terry’s Marina on Lake Wylie. Was underage but worked there and paid for the case as I closed up one summer night. You could see the trail of PBR cans leading under the Buster Boyd Bridge in the wake of our 14’ plywood Renken with a 25hp Gale. Good times!

Go Tigers!

I sneaked to the fridge and back to my room. Daddy ran out of vodka, IDK how that happened. :)

About14-15. My best friend's Dad was a house painter and drank beer while he painted. His Dad left the house he was painting to run an errand and we stole one out of his cooler. Can't remember the brand. Worse thing I have ever tried to drink. We didn't have more than a couple of sips and threw the can away.

After many favorite beers in between I've come full circle. MHL is my beer of choice today.

PBR, 1970. Then progressed to Pony Miller's, then Budweiser and so on and so forth. The absolute worst was Falstaff's Black Label!

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

Miller Pony. I stole it from a garage fridge. When Mom busted me, I blamed my step-brother. Then after he was confronted. I then came clean.

Speaking of PBR. The mom always had the short brown pop bottles in the fridge back in the 70’s. For some reason she switched to Carling’s Black Label back when it was in a white can.

PBR. It was a struggle getting them

down at the beginning of that summer, then by the end of the summer we were literally putting an entire 6-pack in a beer bong as a challenge. I won the challenge, since puking it back up didn't count against us.

Good times.
