Speaking of bowling...

Jan 27, 2022, 1:52 PM

When my wife and I were dating I suggested that we go bowling. I knew that she had bowled in the past and had been on several teams but I was a guy and she was a girl. I had never bowled much but no female was going to beat me at any sport.

When I picked her up at her house she came out with 2 bowling ball bags that contained 3 or 4 different balls...I asked her why she had so many and she told me that she chose which ball she would use depending on how the lanes were dressed. I didn't even know what that meant but I didn't think much of it.

We got to the bowling alley and she was separating the different balls that she had brought, wiping each one down with a special cloth that she had with her. I went up to the rack and picked out a ball that fit my fingers good.

I didn't want to discourage her but at the same time I play to win. This would be no different.

Game 1: Me 118 Her 259
I went back to the rack and picked out a better ball.

Game 2: Me 127 Her 232
She asked me if I would like to use one of her balls.

She started giving me pointers in a very nice way. I don't remember anything she said other than telling me that I was probably just having an off day. We bowled a 3rd game but I don't remember the score. I don't remember which ball I used. She beat me badly again and apologized the entire time.

Women need to understand that we have feelings too.

That is true.

I have been a really good athlete all my life...

Jan 27, 2022, 2:47 PM

I earned multiple varsity letters in high school (football, soccer and track), I played American Legion baseball and tournament softball. I have a single digit handicap in golf, I played in a men's 40+ baseball league, and I even played in a volleyball league for a while. I water ski and I snow ski. I also earned four varsity letters while I was at Clemson.

That said, for whatever reason, I absolutely suck at bowling.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Bowling always brings up a sore spot with me concerning

Jan 27, 2022, 6:23 PM

my time at Clemson. The Student Union bowling alley was new, and started student leagues the last year I was there. I bowled three nights a week, which was one reason I had to scuffle to graduate.

If you go back to Clemson now, unless they have corrected this oversight recently, you will see a huge plaque with the names of every league winning team for every night, for every year, EXCEPT THE FIRST YEAR!

Why does that make me angry? Because my teams won the league on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights. That is correct, we won the championship every night that I bowled. This would be absolutely my only claim to fame from an athletic standpoint while there.

Yeah, yeah, I know, bowlers aren't athletes, yada yada. Tell that to my aching back now. I had to give up bowling way back in 1993, after the FIRST back surgery. So, no more left handed strikes for me.

:(

past". Those were professional level scores she was putting up.

I guess she figured out pretty quick, if she had found a man who could take humiliation as well as you were taking it without bailing out, she had found her a "keeper".

My first date with my first wife! We went bowling because I thought I was good. I had won best league average at Clemson twice with averaged a little over 200. Needless to say, she beat my as*. Then we went to play pinball and again beat my as* Then she informed me her father was over maintenance of a big bowling alley in Denver when she was growing up so she basically grew up in a bowling alley. We just went to the movies on our second date.

time just how many tournaments that she had won over the years. She had been on a team that had won a national championship in Dallas.

She never talked much about it because she is a very humble person.

I also think u may be right about the humiliation part. I put on a brave face that evening but I think she saw right through it.
