Funny kidney stone story

I have had three kidney stone attacks, the last being in 1986 at age 45. Due to having a large stone, my doctor scheduled lithotripsy. After settling in for the shock wave treatment, the doctor asked if I would like valium. At that point in the treatment I felt like the treatment was a mere tickle. I refused the offer.
The shock waves gradually increased to a pounding in my side that was like being in the ring with a heavyweight boxer. Finally the lithotripsy ended and I went back to my hospital room to await the results. Fifteen minutes later my doctor came to give me the news. He said that he had good news and bad news. The good news was that the lithotripsy was successful and had broken up the large kidney stone. The bad news was that it had broken it in half and I now had twice as many stones as before the treatment.

Glad you posted this. Just had SWL a few weeks ago for an 11mm except I was under anesthesia. Going back next week for a second procedure to get the remaining 2+ stones that were created from the original. Luckily, I never had any pain from any of it so far.

I had one bladder stone when I was 16. I only knew about it when it 'passed.' My grandfather took me to the doctor and I got a shot of penicillin to treat a common STD of the time. I explained I had not been 'exposed,' to the disease and both laughed at me.

I’ve had lithotripsy twice. It took years to pass all the little pieces. Even tiny stones can hurt if they have sharp edges. Breaking them up guarantees that they have sharp edges.

My wife recently had a kidney stone attack. She was fortunate enough to pass it on her own. She said it was the most pain she has ever experienced. When a woman, who has gone through child birth, tells you
that a stone is the worst pain, take it to heart. It hurts. I'm thankful I have not had that experience,

The blockage of urine from the kidney to the bladder and the corresponding kidney swelling is what causes the pain.

Had a high ranking Clemson football coach as a patient in ICU in the worst pain of his life. He passed the stone, but I can vouch the pain spares no one.

My wife loves to tell people about how I acted after four shots of painkiller. When she tells the story she just laughs, and the people she tells it to, just laugh. I have yet to see any kind of humor in the experience.

I was wearing the little cone shaped strainer, they give you, that catches the stone when you urinate, as a hat. Telling everyone, that I was all dressed up and nowhere to go. Telling the ER nurse to get her homely face outta my face. (actually; she wasn't homely. She was far from it. In truth she was drop dead gorgeous). Asking the ER doc, for more Demerol, because I wanted to sell it. I felt like I could put the dealers out of business. Some other things that my wife tells; I have no recollection of, and quite honestly; if they're true, I don't want to remember, but to get the full affect, you have to hear my wife tell the story. She acts it out, and tells it with a goofy slurred voice. However; in that La La land it put me in, I was still in awful pain, and stayed that way, until I'm guessing, that I passed the stone. That was kind of a unique experience too.

I had my first at age 9. I literally had to crawl from our den to the kitchen where mom was making dinner. Trying to stand up and walk was out of the question. When I made it to the kitchen I couldn't even talk the pain was so bad. But mom's always know when something is terribly wrong. They loaded into the back seat of our Buick and rushed me to the hospita.. I was violently throwing up the entire way. Never will forget it. But after the first experience it gets easier. Still extremely painful ar least you're familiar with what's going on.

I had kidney stones one time, and that is enough for me.
I didn’t know what was going on. I was at work when the pain started, and it wasn’t that intense at first, I thought I had pulled a muscle in my lower back or something. The pain eased up, I did some stretching exercises and thought I had healed myself……boy was I wrong about that. Finished my day at work went home ate showered and continued doing my stretching because it started to act up again. Decided to turn in early and see if getting a little shuteye would help with whatever was going on with my back…..it did not.
At about 1:00 am I awake from a dead sleep with some unknown assailant stabbing me in the back with a dull rusty knife. My wife said I kicked all the covers off the bed and hopped up and ran off the end of the bed and proceeded to throw up in the trash can in the bathroom.I was about 3 feet from the toilet, but I knew I wasn’t going to make it that far. I threw up until there was nothing else left in the tank, then I dry heaved another time or twelve. I had no idea what was happening to me, but I did want my wife to get my sons downstairs so I could tell them I loved them before I expired.
My wife and my three sons and I loaded up in the minivan and headed to the hospital. I was soaking wet from sweat and was to the point that I was ready to embrace the sweet relief of death. We were heading down 585 in Spartanburg and in front of the Milliken plant I told my wife to pull over and I proceeded to dig a little deeper and threw up one more time on the side of 585.
I staggered into into the emergency room and must have been quiet the site because the nurse behind the check in counter said oh honey let’s go straight to the back, we will get your info later. I must admit most of the experience was a blur, and my wife answered all the questions for me. The thing I do remember is the doctor saying they were going to give me a shot of morphine and I have watched enough war movies to know that if you get a shot of morphine, your not going to make it. I said yes doc give me the morphine! Apparently morphine upsets my stomach and I dry heaved one time and then felt the pain just fade away. I went from the most intense pain I had ever felt to instant relief. It was like the heavens open up and I was serenaded by a choir of angles as I felt the pain leave my body.
I wouldn’t wish a kidney stone on my worst enemy.

the stairs dry-heaving from the pain and my (ex)wife was trying to put on a little makeup and fix her hair for the trip to ER. And I'm screaming - No, no, no... I'm dying! No one who hasn't experienced it will understand. Every time I felt the car slow down... like at a redlight, I kept yelling - No, go go go! Eff the redlights just go! I'm dying here!
Two or three shots of morphine before I could get out of a fetal position. It's unreal.

I couldn’t sit still. I would pace back and forth and Carry a small trash can with me to throw up in. When it got real intense I would crawl around. I had never even seen anyone before dealing with kidney stones so I really had no idea what was happening to me. It really freaked my wife and sons out.

Back in the eighties, I had my stone blasted and the doctor did a very poor job. I thought I was going to lose my kidney. Had a large hematoma. Fortunately, it imporved overnight.

I attended the 2016 Louisville game with a 12mm stone working it’s way out and 4 more still in my kidneys. I picked my son up in Myrtle Beach at 4am. I told him I’d take us as far as I could. We made it 30 mins to Aynor and I pulled over and told him it was his. I took two pain pills and woke up in the rest area on 385. Made it though the game and passed it on Sunday morning. My Dr. was PO’d but I told him I was not missing that game for hell or high water. I think that was #17. I’m up to 23 now. Thank God I get mineral stones and not the calcium type (sand spurs).

I don't know what pain pills you had but go to a game suffering a kidney stone you are one tough mother.
I've had two kidney stone attacks. The second one they had to go and get it. By get it they go up your manhood (under anesthesia of course) and then you go back later to have the stent removed which is an indescribable feeling. I know the morphine like IV I got was the best feeling I've ever had. Could have hit me with Louisville slugger and I wouldn't have felt a thing.
Good to read about others that have suffered from these.

I was taking Percocet. I took two that morning and one about 5pm. With mineral stones like I get, once it makes the bladder the worst is over. If you can get through it , the more you walk the better off you are. They’re caused by excessive Uric acid just like gout. My urologist ended up prescribing me gout medicine and that has been a blessing. I’m down to about one a year now.

Yeah, that was an experience no one warned me about beforehand. The nurse told me to take a deep breath and slowly let it out as she removed the stent. I ran out of breath before she ran out of stent.

Told him I was dying. Described the pain. He came over and drove me to the ER. Sat in a chair, crying and moaning for an hour waiting on a bed to open up. Worst evening of my life, so painful. And the worst news, the CT scan showed one waiting in my other kidney. Good times to come.

Had my first stone at age 19 in 1966. Was feeling pressure in my lower back area for a few weeks which would be relieved after a bathroon visit. One morning just after the stream began, it felt like a brick was dropped on the privates. Was barely able to crawl to the car so Dad could take me to the hospital. Was put under for a cystoscopy and spent two nights at G'ville General.
Had another in 2013, went to the ER where an ultrasound was done. Didn't see anything, was advised it had likely passed and was sent home after pain meds. Was back five hours later. This time ultrasound was done down to the bladder and found the stone an inch above. Don't know why it wasn't done that way the first time. Thankfully the Urologist took me as an evening addition to his surgery schedule and stayed in the hospital overnight. Couldn't do the lithotripsy since earlier had taken one of the many meds prohibited before the procedure. Know a guy here who gets them about every 18 months. Drs have tried a number of remedys without success. If that was me, would have do an ambien cure.
One of the worst things was a cystoscopy done in the Dr office with just local meds. Didn't realize that was on the agenda when I went in for the visit. Will walk out before it will be done at another visit. When I went to the restroom after the procedure, it felt like the whole urinary system was on fire.
