Short players Coots to use sophmores & ex-players for ProDay

Mar 6, 2017, 6:33 PM

COLUMBIA — Rising junior Zack Bailey of Summerville will be among the current and former South Carolina players participating in the Gamecocks’ annual pro day next week.

Bailey, 6-6 and 311 pounds, is not draft-eligible until after the 2017 season. The offensive lineman is working at right tackle in spring practice after playing guard and center his first two seasons at USC.

Two other rising juniors, receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end Hayden Hurst, will also be participating in the March 14 workout in front of NFL scouts, according to USC.

Former Gamecocks players expected to take part include Matrick Belton, Jordan Diggs, Chaz Elder, Darius English, Elliott Fry, Kelsey Griffin, T.J. Holloman, Shannon James, Marquavius Lewis, Cedrick Malone, Chris Moody, Darius Paulk, Marcquis Roberts, Jonathan Walton, Drew Williams and Mason Zandi.

Players will take part in the broad jump, vertical jump and bench press in USC’s weight room, and then move into Williams-Brice Stadium where they will participate in 40-yard dash and shuttle drills before transitioning to individual position workouts.

Bailey, a former Summerville High School star, was named to the SEC All-Freshman team after starting five games in 2015, and was South Carolina’s most consistent offensive lineman while starting all 13 contests as a sophomore.

In related news, the NFL is using posters from reddit as opposed to actual scouts to visit said Pro Day, since one glance at the film will largely establish to anyone's satisfaction that the Gamecocks have no one actually worth drafting.

The good news is, guys will get to run and jump and have stopwatches clicked at them. And the reddit posters helping out as NFL scouts will get catered lunches.

Out of all the players they had to leave this year, the only one I see making an NFL roster is the kicker.

A Coot Combine!

Mar 6, 2017, 7:30 PM

Since they didn't get to showcase their lack of talent at the NFL Combine Mudshrimp decided to hold his own.
Rumor has it that Ms Marvins 3rd grade class will be taking a field trip to WB for the day and will help round out and increase attendance to a lofty 47 people.

South Carolina’s most consistent offensive lineman !?!?!?!

Mar 6, 2017, 9:08 PM

Isn't that akin to being the tallest midget or winning the bikini contest at fat camp.

You know secretly Bailey wishes he was a Tiger.***

Why are they having a pro day?

Mar 6, 2017, 9:21 PM

I wouldn't be there if I were an NFL scout.

so nothing these ignorant imbeciles do should surprise anyone.

Just another weak and desperate attempt at pretending to be relevant.

Jacksonville Gamecocks. I mean, the Coots have taken credit in the past for non South Carolina players, creating a poster of players Muschamp put in the NFL while at Florida,Texas, and Auburn and labeling it "Gamecocks in the NFL".....

Was George Rogers unable to break away and try out ? They should combine with the Citadel and do one. They were state runner-ups the year before.

Actually I don't have a problem with this..

Mar 7, 2017, 7:58 AM

Fry is a pretty good kicker. And some of these guys are decent players who got screwed by the USC-Eastern system like Chris Moody who was switched back and forth from safety to linebacker and the poor kid probably never which position he was playing until gametime. As far as the underclassmen, it will give them a chance to know what the NFL is looking for.
