Guys, someone with more football knowledge than me , please answer this question

I just listened to David hoods podcast -which was insightful -Why would our coaching staff offer a quarterback -Who may be an elite talent -but doesn’t fit our rpo system that we run? Seems to be the last few years we’ve been constantly trying to fit a square peg in a round hole although there have been flashes of greatness

Maybe they want options if we ever had an offensive scheme adjustment. Not predicting anything like that, but it seems like having the capacity for different looks (even in an emergency situation where QBs go down in like a playoff game or something) is wise.

Sometimes even great coaches make big recruiting mistakes

DJ appeared to be more mobile in HS than he ended up in college. Maybe the coaches didn't look at his father and realize DJ's natural path was to put on a lot of pounds and become less mobile.

They also missed the other, numerous, much-discussed fundamental problems he had because they weren't exposed against HS competition. Dabo isn't perfect. Even Babe Ruth struck out sometimes.

Last comment: Blaming DJ's failures at Clemson on "poor fit" is just a convenient excuse, IMO. His shortcomings will remain wherever he goes, unless he steps down to a lower level of competition.

Don’t buy the second part of that. There’s enough brain trust with knowledge of the game of football to understand what they are seeing on film on a prospect. They can tell easily if the tendencies, fundamentals, and skill set will translate to the next level or fit their scheme…

What they weren’t prepared for and completely over looked was what was inside the helmet. DJ’s mine is his biggest enemy. Afraid of messing up…hard for him to overcome adversity.

Mo,

Agreed, DJs biggest problems came from trying to read defenses and find his second or third receiver. He was better in 22 than in 21, but I fear he will never master those skills. They are excessively hard to teach unless there is some natural ability there. The game just never really slowed down for him - and it won't next year either.

So it doesnt matter what anyone thinks, really.

But that 5* QB was a bust. The program is supposed to compete for the CFP and he didnt deliver on it. Whether it was him or the system noone will ever be able to say.

I personally think Dabo became convinced of the system's own invincibility and waited too long to make a change.

Although it cost Dabo some goodwill with fans and maybe some cred with the sports pundits and perhaps even a chance at the CFP, it's all water under the bridge now.
