through NIL. Now that we see the chaos and advantage it has given schools with no ethics and lots of money have hurt Clemson recruiting.
I feel somewhat vindicated after all of the chaos, lack of NCAA control and schools like A&M, and other schools who have pushed education and the best interest of student athletes to the side so they could win at all cost.
I hope you now feel my main interest and concern for the student athletes education, college athletics and the character and integrity for the coaches leading the program athletes selected.
Now we have about 40 plus percent of athletes who went through the portal looking for a place to play and NIL is like the Wild West with everyone carrying a gun.
The NCAA has failed the student athletes and college athletics. Per a sports article “ The result of this much-needed change has been chaos, which was predictable given the absence of regulations and oversight. “
IMO a door has been opened that can’t be closed. Can the NCAA gain any type of control or pass regulations.
I am not try to point fingers. It’s just a sad day for college athletics, student athletes and college athletic fan’s.

change the designation from "Student-Athlete" to "Paid-Athlete". Not that they probably weren't before to various degrees, but now, the PAID part is Front and Center. And, like you (and me and many others) said, it is an UNMITIGATED CLUSTER FORK IN THE ROAD.

measured approach to this.
I believe scholarship student athletes were at a disadvantage because of the rules around their ability to work and receive income, but it seems like the NIL swung the pendulum as far as it could swing in the opposite direction.
College athletes went from disadvantaged, to discussions about fair compensation for their "jobs" of playing sports, to unrestricted NIL deals coupled with the transfer portal.
This situation will get ugly before it gets better IMO.
BTW, I'm all for student athletes getting compensation while on scholarship because it takes a lot of work and time to be a good D1 athlete. I just don't think the the NIL is the answer. No clue how to make it better either.

There was a reason players were not getting paid. You can't pay them and keep CFB the way it used to be. It's very complicated. If you give them money then you have to give everyone who plays sports at each school money. The media members who pushed this didn't have the wisdom to see the outcome. Once players can choose where to go to school based on monetary reasons College sports are done.

a position I've held from the start: these new transfer portal and NIL rules are a bunch of horsemanure that should have been roundly and soundly addressed by the NCAA a long time ago.
I have always supported the idea of a monthly stipend, as I received one over 50 years ago from my Army Scholarship at Clemson. The sit-out rule for transferees should never have been eliminated, and definitive rules should have been enacted on the NIL crap.

NIL was clearly - "OK, we're going to start paying players"

Now, it's up to you (and everyone else) to decide if you want to continue supporting players who came to Clemson because we offered them the most money.
My reaction is still evolving - but I always liked the fact that a recruit/player had "fallen in love with Clemson" the same way I did. I suspect I'm not going to enjoy the games as much...
But - who's to say what is in the best interests of the athlete? If you have a guy like Ruiz (in Miami) willing to pay kids 6+ figures to attend Miami, they should probably take it and upgrade their families lives...
