Some of you are so predictable.

Last year you complained about not making the NCAAs. You said that Clemson should make it every year, despite the fact that we’ve only made it a dozen times in our history. Well guess what? We made it this year. Easily. Why aren’t you happy about it? Oh that’s right, because you want to act like whiny little girls than support Clemson basketball.
We lost the least important game of our season today. We are in the NCAA Tournament, which is the one that matters. It stinks to lose, but it’s not a big deal. We will learn from this loss today and get better. We will be ready for the Big Dance.
Get on the bandwagon now, or ####. I’m so tired of you losers.

You couldn’t be more wrong. You think the first game in a tournament is the least important? That’s the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. You can’t win a tournament if you cant win the first game. It doesn’t matter if it’s the ACC tournament or the NCAA tournament. You have to come out swinging with your best to advance. Now you think somehow round one of the NCAA will be different?

That’s where we are. We accomplished that. Great!
Our next goal is to win our first round NCAA Tournament game. Let’s focus on that, not losing in the ACC Tournament.
We get our chance next week to accomplish our next goal.

Give me a break. We’ve won tons of ACC basketball tournaments. We didn’t need to even win a single game in this one.
We’ve got everyone in the country right where we want them. They won’t know what hit them.

I don’t agree with a lot of what you said but do agree that a successful season is right in front of us... not sure why we can’t just be disappointed for sure bc that was pathetic but at the same time see what this team does in the dance ... win a game or two and most including me are very happy with it... one and done and it’s a failure imo... I am one of the ppl happy with making the tourney and every couple years a run by this team has proven it can play with really good teams and should win atleast one ... it has also proven it can okay about as bad as anyone so I guess we will see

Defending Brad & his tournament ready teams even when most of us are so hurt by losing when we have a team with this much talent knowing how many times we lost when we didn’t have the talent to win.

What do you mean, “this much talent?”
Mar 10, 2021, 9:39 PM
|
|
The best player on the court played for Miami, not Clemson.
We have more depth than Miami, but Miami’s top 3 players are better than our top 3.
That’s why the coaching job Brad has done this year is so good. We aren’t loaded with stars. Simms is our best player, and he does a lot for us. But he isn’t the kind of guy who is often able to take over a game like Wong does.
Who is our second best player? Most good teams have a clear cut #2. We don’t, because we don’t have a second star. It’s nice to have multiple guys who can get hot, but it’s also nice to have a guy you know you can count on. We can’t even count on Simms to show up every night, so you know we can’t count on a second (or third) guy to do it consistently either.
To win as much as we have without two or even three stars takes a good system of players working their tails off, and a coach who uses his bench well. It had paid off for us most games this year, but today it didn’t.
Honestly, where do you think Clemson ranks this year in the ACC in talent? Hint: it’s not in the top 5. That should tell you something about our coaching.

I also don’t know that it really helps CBB’s case when you say he coaches well despite our lack of talent, considering he’s responsible for both coaching and recruiting.

I disagree with you, Miami had 1 player who was the most talented guy on the floor(Wong). We had the next two plus we had 11 players that are all decent role players. I would take our 16-6 team over their 9-16 team any day of the week.
We could have pressed them & used some fouls being aggressive & it would have wore them down without hurting our team much. I really think we went away from playing everybody like we have all year. I’m guessing Brads plan was to only used 6-7 players & keep the rest of the team rested for GT because if that wasn’t the plan I don’t understand why he didn’t wear them down knowing they played yesterday.
We have top 5 talent in the ACC because of our depth but you have to use your strength to win in this league.
I believe Virginia & NC State are the only 2 teams with more talent depth than us. We will be much better next year if the talent we have develops well.

I think we are in the bottom half in talent. UNC, Duke, Virginia, Va Tech, GT, Louisville, all have more talent and maybe a few others. Have you ever wondered why a professional team wouldn't trade their star player for five mediocre players from another team? Because one great player is a lot more valuable ..... i.e. today's game with Wong. Our 11 players could not overcome the performance of one of theirs. I love our guys. They are just not top rung players ..... but if they work hard they can be darn good when they get more experience.

We have done that.
Thankfully, we didn’t need to win today to meet our goal. That’s a good thing!
Of course we wanted to win today. I hated to lose it. But after thinking about it, I realized that it’s not worth dwelling on. We weren’t going to win the ACC Tournament. Let’s take the rest, work on some things, and be ready to go for Indy next week.

I think you have to believe in momentum and team chemistry, the fact they only played 7 today after a day of playing really hurts the confidence I promise you.
Winning today could only help our momentum which is the most important part of a team going into the tournament. Not least important, to me

Yes. Just like that. If we win the final that year we probably advance. Coming off of a loss like this is tenfold more devastating than a positive ACC final run. Not sure how you can compare the two unless you’ve been trying to defend yourself brownell posts

...especially this year where your usual top tier ACC teams may not even making the NCAA tournament. Don't delude yourself that this team can take a loss like this and then make the kind of run that you imply will happen. If they make a run, it will be in spite of debacles like this or that hellacious losing streak it experienced early this year. Clemson has not played a ranked team since we were humbled by FSU, 11 games played since then in ACC play and not a single ranked ACC team was on the schedule. That's not exactly stellar play nor coaching... but for the players, I certainly hope that they find success in the NCAA tournament. But for their confidence, a win tonight along with another win on Friday would have better served them for the NCAA than losing in their 1st ACC tourney game to a disheveled team looking to play the spoiler...

I’ll assuming your speaking out of anger , frustration, and a tad bit of hopelessness.
I mean it stunk we lost. But let’s all be honest, who in the heck could be surprised. I’m always impressed by BB’s ability to just barely hang on to his job when most impatient AD’s nowadays would probably move in another direction.
He is what he is , and it’s looks as if he’s going to continue to be our coach. Not much anyone can do about it other than accept it.

are the ones who seem to have had their day ruined because we lost today, the ones who are complaining about our coach on the internet, and who even went so far as to send Aamir Simms offensive messages on social media.
They tell themselves that they are the only ones who care, because they “don’t settle for mediocrity” and can see that we deserve better for Clemson basketball. LOL. Talk about delusional.
Brownell isn’t barely hanging on to his job. He has just guided this team to the program’s 12th NCAA Tournament in program history. He has the best ACC winning percentage in program history and has set records in the classroom. If you think his job was in jeopardy at any point this year, you are mistaken.

I think most would agree that another season of missing the NCAA Tourny would have likely cost Brownell his job. Yet you state at no time this season was his job ever in jeopardy? If that’s true, then it may be that DRAD is only concerned about the success of the football program.

Best is the Standard

I know this is a Football slogan but, is relevant to all Clemson University sports teams. Football fell short in the last game against OSU. Baseball did the same thing yesterday and basketball today. All of the coaches involved will be the first to admit that their teams fell short of the expected standard of play at Clemson. I do not believe it is ever ok to be satisfied with underperforming. CU basketball should never be ok with going one and done in the conference tournament. Today I had flashbacks to my days as a student when the basketball team prepared to one and done. The players did not pack toothbrushes and underwear because they knew they were coming home. I hope this very talented team can get into the correct state of mind for the NCAA tournament. If not, they will one and done there as well.

Who here finds the loss today acceptable?
Mar 10, 2021, 10:00 PM

I sure don’t. We are a better team than Miami. We were 2-0 against them this year. We should have won today, for sure.
After processing the loss, I was able to see that it’s not a big deal. I also reminded myself that this is our first loss all year to a quad 2, 3, or 4 team. We were undefeated against those quadrants all year, that’s amazing.
Knowing that today’s performance (losing to a team we are supposed to beat) is a huge anomaly this year gives me confidence that it is very unlikely to happen again next week.

We beat Miami by 1 on the road. We beat them by 12 at home. They should beat by atleast 6 at a neutral site. The frustrating thing about this game was how sloppy the Tigers played down the stretch. They got beat by a team with a short bench without rest. Frankly Brownell did not find a way to prevent Miami from exploiting their ability to get into the paint which was a problem the entire game.

The least important game of the season you say?
Mar 11, 2021, 8:39 AM
|
|
There are no unimportant games at Tournament time when every win can improve where you're seeded.
Yesterday's loss likely drops Clemson to an 8 seed in the NCAAT
If the team can get past the 9 seed in Round 1, which is a BIG IF, they will be facing a second round match-up against a No. 1 seed.
Who doesn't look forward to playing a No. 1 seed on the first weekend of the tournament?

Agree with everything you said judge, except for the least important game of the year. Really bummed that we lost yesterday.
The rest of what you said stands. This was our first “bad loss” of the year against a pretty solid Miami team. They had the best player on the floor for sure. They also made a ton of difficult shots and we could make ours.
It’s never enough for these over-emotional haters. If you asked them before the season they would have said “I just want to make it to the tournament” and now that we did it is not enough. These people are a bunch of sad losers.

Brad has done a decent job, but just decent isn't good enough. He has a very weak recruiting class coming in and it's just not going to get better anytime soon. Let's be realistic. Can someone else do a better job? Who knows? Brad is leading us nowhere. He is okay kind of good. Let's mix it up and strive for better. What do we have to lose?
