His first 17 seasons, his average record was 45-21. His last 5 he averaged 37-25. He went to 6 CWS in his first 17 seasons, and none in his last 5. During the last 5 seasons, Clemson did not get out of the regionals, and only hosted one (losing 2 straight to UCONN at the regional championship stage). The Tigers went 4-10 in those 5 regionals, including 0-4 in the last 2. The Gamecocks were in several of those same regionals, including eliminating Clemson with 2 wins vs. the Tigers in 2012.
The Gamecocks' rise to national prominence during this time certainly exacerbated the situation (going back to 2010, when they beat Clemson 2 straight in Omaha on their way to winning it all). He may have been about to turn things around, as Lee's first team at Clemson won the ACC tournament championship in 2016, and finished with 44 wins (Clemson's most victories since 2010).
But the seat had been getting progressively hotter for a number of years...

Even with the struggles of a few of Jacks later teams, we definitely downgraded in the coaching department with firing Jack and hiring Monte.

DRad was a assistant A.D. at South Carolina. Montes claim to fame was his assistant role at South Carolina.

That’s only if we want to hire one of Jack’s former players. There are plenty of great candidates with no connection to JL
