Some Can't See The Forest Behind The Trees

Here's what I think is happening. The SEC and the B1G are going after a very few teams to solidify their conferences. When that occurs then the 10.0 earthquake happens. Both withdraw from the NCAA and have their own playoff between the two conferences. Both will have the vast majority of the well thought of teams that rings the cash register. No need to go after schools just to create a place at the table for non-earners. Sixty-four teams? Are you kidding? Fifty-two? No way. I think forty-eight, or less, maximum. The cash pot just gets diluted the more teams you add.
If you think their regular season payout ($100-$120 million per team) is big then wait until you see what the playoff money payouts will bring in. All of the playoff cash will be kept by those two conferences. It makes NO SENSE to keep expanding WITH other leagues, no sense to combine existing conferences to try and stay alive. The playoff money with the regular season income will put the SEC and the B1G so far ahead they will easily triple what any other conference could hope to bring in and whomever is left out is left out. The quality of teams that will exist in these two conferences will justify being crowned the national champion.
We may not like it but if you look beyond the two trees in front of you there is a forest behind them. Some cannot see the forest because they focus on what has always been. Think outside that box for a minute as to where this IS GOING. The money is going to be enormous in a few years. We are getting there quickly.

I also believe there are alum/booster/sponsor egos and college chancellors/presidents/BOT's involved so there will be some moneyed prestigious academic schools who are competent at football & all sports and get a place at the table -- UNC and UVA are two.

Hate to say it, but with that kind of money, there’s gonna be some skimming/stealing going on somewhere.

If that happens, I think you will see a drop in viewership. Not everyone in the country is fans of 40 or so select teams, and there may be a backlash. Less viewership =less money, which would strain the financial obligations of these superconferences.

Perhaps but this is like the premier league in European soccer. Different levels of play where everyone competes in a group where they are competitive.
We have all asked what do teams like Cuse or BC WF or Nancy St bring to the table so why should they get an equal share of the revenue?
The unfortunate thing is teams like UofSC lucked their way into the mix. If starting with a clean slate they would have never been included

It that's true then look to see some teams being kicked out of this supposed ultimate league. Vandy, South Carolina, Illinois, Indiana, Perdue, Rutgers, etc. Why keep the non-players around for a huge payday?

South Carolina is in the top 3rd (or so) of Power 5 schools in terms of football revenue. I probably dislike them as much as you do but they're not getting kicked out of the SEC.

I'm not sure why you call that "thinking outside the box." What you posted sounds more like "conventional wisdom" or "majority opinion" to me.
