Solo Stove

Oct 5, 2022, 10:13 AM

Anyone own one? I am thinking of purchasing one today. They are pretty expensive but I have heard great things about them. One of the marketing strategies of the company is they are portable and perfect for tailgating and they even have them with the Clemson paw on them.

Oct 5, 2022, 10:16 AM

Well they are $299 and are specifically made to be brought to tailgates. The reason why? It will be cool at the ACC Championship and I want a small fire to sit around while tailgating. These solo stoves are safe and are smokeless. On their website, there are videos of people using them on the beach, at picnics and while tailgating but I was hoping someone had one and could tell me if it is worth the price.

Well fortunate for me the tailgate police aren't to strict. I have seen charcoal grills, fire pits, charcoal smokers, huge fryers, etc. From what I understand the Solo Stove is as safe or safer than any charcoal grill. I know some rules may prohibit it but I will take my chances I guess.

I have one. Wouldn’t use anything else. Very portable and little to no smoke. Had mine for six years

I have one too. The Bonfire model. I wouldn't want anything else. I wouldn't say "little to no smoke", there really is NO smoke if you use properly sized, dry wood.

It is portable, but tailgating isn't the right place for an open fire.

Sales occur online between Thanksgiving and Christmas every year.

I use it on my covered wood porch with the spacer ring under it. Very little smoke if any and it burns very efficiently. You're left with only ash. It will throw some head as well.

They’re great for burning split hardwood - truly little to no smoke. The problem is they consume so much wood so quickly, it can be burdensome to fuel the thing for any duration of time…

Re: Solo Stove

We've had a Solo stove for the last couple of years on a concrete patio and really like it. It produces really good heat with minimal ash. I only dump it once or twice a year. However, we had significant issues with embers popping out and burning our clothes and patio cushions, so we got the shield this spring, and that eliminated at least 90% of the embers, so I definitely recommend it.

You can check the stoves here. https://houseandbeyond.org/best-charcoal-smoker/
. I'm not sure that I would use the stove directly on a wood or composite patio, but if you put three bricks underneath it at various points, just lifting it a few inches, then it should be totally fine.

I have a Yukon and I love it, but the Yukons are more stationary. You would probably want to buy the ranger or at the very most the bonfire (I don't think I'd recommend the bonfire) to tailgate with.
