Softball followers - how did we come so far so fast?

I assume there are limited scholarships unless the ncaa gives start up programs an incentive. Any info is appreciated. Go Tigers.

Class of ‘71. Went through “rat season” and glad I did.

Excellent coaching and very, very talented ladies that were hoping for Clemson to start the sport and thrilled to be part of the inaugural team with a great facility.

For starters, we have a great coach. He's been there done that so to speak. If you read his resume, he's used to starting up new teams. That being said, Cagle. She's generational talent. About like Trevor. She could have gone straight to the bigs. Plus we have a one two punch with Marissa G. We could use a bit more contact hitting in the bottom 3rd of our order.

There is a huge demand and a wealth of talent here in SC and the South. Reason that usuck has been competitive on a national scale. I've actually heard it for years about Clemson. We have a huge softball complex and I'd go watch the young gals at tournaments. They'd see me with my Clemson gear walking and ask when Clemson was going to get a team... Lots of demand. Coots were down this year because their ace graduated.

Third, our schedule has been favorable. We're a really good team but the ACC in general is down this year in softball. We will know exactly how good we are when we play FSU and other teams that have Val type pitching. Va tech and Duke are good teams and have a good chance to advance to a Super regional. Then the sledding gets tough.

When you have a Val, you can win the 3-2 and 1-0 games. Our fielding is getting better but we still need to clean up the costly error or boot to compete in the csws.

Hth some. It's going to be an exciting ride. We are young but thanks to coach Rittman and his well deserved and respected reputation that's put a lot of talent in the bigs with his gig at Stanford.

Personally, I'd love to see DRad take that approach in hiring in some other sports.

You only need one good pitcher and we have one.

and that was probably luck.

I'd also say that softball players don't develop that much from high school to college, so a team of seniors isn't necessarily going to beat up a younger team.

While it's a team sport, the positions are played individually so you can pretty easily mix and match players for 90% of the game as there just isn't that much team work.

There's also a gap between the top few teams that make the world series and a gap between the pretty good teams and everyone else. I'd say it's because there's so little talent nationally there aren't enough good players to go around.

Based on what I've seen we're on the wrong side of the elite gap in the "pretty good" category.

While both our replies say the same thing, I have to disagree about the national talent level. There just wasn't much demand 2 decades ago except west of the Mississippi River. It's been pretty big in other countries, and growing just like baseball and golf has exploded internationally.

Now those players (like golf/baseball) are filtering into our colleges. More and more colleges have added it as a sport. We'll see even more interest after July Olympics. More appetite for national leagues with streaming services. The salaries suck but they're inching upwards.

I don't think Cagle was highly

No doubt, Tigers are good. Period.

The schedule the Tigers play is not that strong so that helps in the record.

The tournament should be fun to watch!
