All you DC State supporting libbies, read Article 1 Sec. 8.

Article I, Section 8 provides explicitly for a national capital that would not be part of a state nor treated as a state, but rather a unique enclave under the exclusive authority of Congress — a neutral “district” in which representatives of all the states could meet on an equal footing to conduct the nation’s business.
DC Statehood would require a Constitutional amendment.
Nice job managing the House's time Nancy.

provides for the existence of such a district, but I don't believe it says that there *must* be such a district.

You're saying there has to be an amendment to change it?

Hmm... I bet we've never done that before.
Also, help us out. What's "liberal" about supporting it and "conservative" about not supporting it?
Why do you support nearly 700,000 Americans being subject to taxation and federal law without representation?

Keeping nearly 700,000 citizens from having Senate representation is... because you don't want one political party to potentially gain two more senators?

What you smell is that beautiful salt air and your envy as you sit in the trash heap that is Columbia and only dream of being down here.

DC statehood would never receive enough support for a constitutional amendment.

He's not going to give you a rational answer for why 700,000 Americans should be denied representation.

I think there is good reason to have a non political district (legally speaking) for the seat of the Federal Government. If you choose to live there, that is up to you.

desirable in urban areas? Ever? The two parties have swung back and forth over time in types of support. It seems kind of silly that DC statehood is being couched in such partisan terms because the Democratic party currently has the upper hand in cities. Once the nativist, Idiocratic wave washes out of the GOP and it starts behaving like an actual problem-solving arm of the political spectrum, it could very well gain much greater support in areas like that.
