Yep all he had to do was nothing when he got in there. Dang shame. Not sure what to do with my funds to be honest because they sure as hell are not making me any money.

"Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful." (Warren Buffet)

Some will argue the advice or the investment style, but now is one of the best opportunities in your lifetime to buy stocks. The question is "Which ones?". The answer for those who are successful conservative investors is the ones with a very healthy balance sheet that pay generous and increasing dividends, have been doing so for many years and are likely to do so continuing into the future.

I used to look mostly at the share price of a stock and try to determine whether it was a good buy based on common metrics (P/E, B/V, etc.), but found that my focus on share price led to nervousness and very bad decision timing rationale. I also had a tendency to buy the latest idea or hot mover, which was at times good, at times bad - overall erratic and not dependable results. I even tried day-trading (including on margin) and found out the dangers in that over a 3-year period.

Onece I began to choose shares based on what long-term income I could buy for the price I had to pay and based the final purchase decision on the company's ability to continue paying me that (increasing) income into the future, I completely relaxed and now enjoy the fact that almost daily I receive a diviend from one company or another which I can use to buy more income.

As an example, I opened my account this morning to find that last night I received dividends from ED, KO, K, MAIN, PRU, ORI, O and WHR. The amount was fairly substantial and those funds will be used to buy shares today, as soon as I determine what I think provides the best value.

I have only successfully timed a market once - and that was in 1987, when I sold everything 1 week before the crash and reinvested 1/2 the next trading day and the rest 1 week later. Other times I have tried and found that even though my exit point may have been good, I missed the correct reentry point and cost myself some good capital apprecation over the long term.

These days, market fluctuations don't concern me - the share prices of good companies will eventually rebound and meanwhile, the investment prize of the income is safe/steady and I find opportunities for further success every day.

Those who sell shares out of fear and buy CDs, bonds, T-Bills or whatever right now can certainly earn a safe 4-5% on their money, but if the money isn't needed until sometime in the future, the same 4-5% can be derived from dividends, with the prospect of 25-50% or more capital gains given patience with some quality stocks.

On a positive note...

Dec 15, 2022, 5:27 PM

The American taxpayers get to spend $80 for a barrel of oil from Joe's buddies at OPEC to replenish the Strategic Petroleum Reserve that Joe has depleted over the past 6 months. I guess there was no consideration given to opening up the pipeline and reducing this cost by about 75%.

... and so it goes in Joe Biden's America...

Pulled all of my accounts earlier..

Broker wasn’t happy but I am not losing money, not making tons either. Placed everything in cd’s at 3.75%, will move them later to a higher yield when those rates go up again. My bank was happy to do it, but had to do several accounts. This crap doesn’t stop I will put a big safe in the house and that is where the money will go.

As long as the US Government keeps printing more and more greenbacks to pay for its spending and debt interest payments, the value of that cash in your safe is going to drop like a rock.

Might buy stock in Home Depot and Lowes. They sell wheelbarrows.
