GREAT JOB DESANTIS

Oct 19, 2021, 9:37 AM

Have you taken a look at Florida covid numbers recently? Wow, what desantis is doing is truly incredible!

If it's his fault when covid cases are up, then he deserves recognition when numbers are down. It's crazy the media isn't covering it the same way! It's almost like they have an agenda.

I've seen this, and it's undoubtedly a good thing

Oct 19, 2021, 9:41 AM

That numbers are down. I'm not sure it calls for much of a victory parade, because they did have a nasty spike down there, that many other states did not have. The numbers are falling...from a very high number.

I pray for the best for the people of Florida.

Yes I am being sarcastic because of all the people saying the spike was desantis' fault.

If you look at the curve of other states you would see most states had a similar spike hat Florida had. (Florida's slightly more of a spike) north carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia all had spikes recently that were worse than the first and second wave.

Oct 19, 2021, 10:11 AM

is bad. Then tout the lower than everyone else number of cases, once it's reamed your state a new #######.

Beautifully executed. And rinse and repeat, because covid will do the same. Way I see it, Florida bought itself a good 8-10 months of low cases.

Oct 19, 2021, 11:51 AM

you know you're going to blow past all prior peaks? Why delay death reporting weeks, and start doing that right as they're climbing the fastest? Making numbers appear to decline and be on a sharp decline, when they're not?

I dunno, conspiracy? You tell me. But that's what happened in Florida.

They changed it specifically to diffuse the death count in real time. By delaying the deaths to weeks and months later people will have lost interest.

Like this conversation today. DESANTIS DID GREAT! HE ELIMINATED COVID!

(and weeks from now we see 4,000 more deaths that should be reported today).

So your point is technically accurate, but he's playing politics with the death rates to boost himself

"What difference does it honestly make? The total number of deaths is still the same."

and now

"Lol nobody cares. Everyone knows what happened in FL as well as SC and a lot of other states."

Which basically means

"It does mean something and DeSantis f'ed up, but i'm just gonna ignore it now and say 'FREEDOM!!!!'"

Listen, at least 7,000 people needlessly died the last 30 days in FL. It could be more toward 2,000. We know ways to protect people and he chose not too. If you think letting 5,000 people die, then ok, that's on you.

Though i think you tend to want to save lives ... oh wait ... just the unborn ones who dont ask anything from you.

I’m ambivalent about DeSantis as I don’t get the resistance to allowing local governments to issue mask mandates or not.

However, I assume vaccines are readily available in FL along with masks and soap and DeSantis allows Floridians to avail themselves of those preventative measures.

So why are the deaths on his hands? If an individual chooses to vaccinate, wash his hands and choose to wear a mask, what more would DeSantis offer to protect Floridians? Lock downs? No one wants that.

Your research as usual is pretty lame

Here is a news article which analyses school districts in Texas and compare schools with mandates and not.

"The six districts with mask mandates had a total average rate of 1.8% student cases, compared to 3.5% among the four districts without."

Re: So why?

Oct 20, 2021, 2:39 PM

fun with statistics for you.

1.7% is HALF of 3.5% not a 1.7% difference. So since math is hard this is saying

Of every 1000 kids
- No mandate - 35 kids had Covid
- Mandate - 17 kids had Covid

Now if you can count that's double. In your example it would be

1.7% - 17 kids
1.7% increase - 17.3 kids

See the difference?

In addition, with Delta and a R of 5, those 35 kids would expect to infect 175 people. The 17 kids 85 people.

So not only were there twice as many kids getting infected, there was an additional 100 additional people getting infected. Can you now understand why Florida and Texas became a hot mess with Delta????

And i would love to see your "independent" research. Please post ....

"As I’ve seen in my own area, school districts got hit at different times. The mask mandate district here was best at first but has now fallen behind. Also, outliers can distort averages"

What exactly am i distorting? Aren't you the one in favour of DeSantis distorting when deaths are reported to make it look better? Aren't you the one who wants to look at the totality of deaths in FL and NY and not a subset to prove your argument? I just want to be clear on what rules to follow with you

I am not distorting anything. I am asking for your thorough independent research such as I have produced. I want to see graphs and analysis and overview.

I doubt you do...it's all hearsay and facebook bots that feed your ignorance.

Re: Here ya go Broseph

Honestly I am dumbfounded looking at this graph and you saying mandates don't work

LR5 had a 1.09% average covid positive rate from 8/25-9/22
R1 had a 0.46% average covid positive rate from 8/25-9/22

Even the whole time
LR5 0.76%
R1 0.39%

These are the percentage of total positives vs student body

This is your statement "LR5 at the top. Never had a mask mandate all school year. R1 has had one the whole time."

Looking at these stats how can you possible say masks don't work?

Its a pyrrhic victory.

At this point, there are very few people left in Florida that can be infected. With vaccine and previous infection they've likely reached herd immunity.

Unfortunately his policies allowed many people to die and suffer from long covid. But there is no credit for providing little to no protection to your citizens. Just like Abbott in Texas.

Geez. Imagine being New York with similar death numbers, but not at herd immunity like you just said Florida was.... any comment on NY's policies?

Re: GREAT JOB DESANTIS

NY death numbers were mostly spiked by the beginning of the pandemic rather than 18 months into it with the added knowledge we had.

In the last 30 days FL has had approximately 6,600 deaths from Covid
In the last 30 days NY has had approximately 1,100 deaths from Covid

Florida now has 5% more all time deaths due to Covid than NY. So yes, did NY make mistakes in the very beginning? Absolutely they did. But did they learn from their mistakes? Yes absolutely.

Why anyone would want to follow a man who lucks through something in the beginning and fails thereafter is beyond me ... but that's on par with Trump supporters.

Re: GREAT JOB DESANTIS

But overall the death numbers between NY and Florida have been minimal. Would you rather be Florida, or NY right now? As you mentioned, Florida has reached herd immunity without crushing their economy and remain open. NY crushed their economy and still have strict lockdowns

Crushed their Economy? The labor participation rate bounced back to pre-covid levels in NY in Feb 2021 and it just got back to that in FL this month. Now unemployment rates are higher in NY, but they always were in the first place.

GDP numbers are still TBD, but this false narrative around "crushing of economies" simply isn't true.

If you have any specific numbers to show a "crushed economy vs a thriving economy" i'd love to see them.

Plus NY has LESS deaths, and LESS strain on their medical system. Plus a more respectful community who is more interested in helping each other instead of trying to "out FrEEdUming" each other.

And finally, they have a Mayor in NY and a Governor in NY who isn't trying to run for President. Instead they are actively working to helping their citizens rather than trying to play to national interests. So for people who are all about "local rule" you should be for that. A governmental body which is aiming to work to protect and serve their citizens instead of trying to appease conservatives in Alabama

Rents and property prices have rebounded back to pre-pandemic levels

And the service industry is struggling? Last i heard it was hard to get reservations anywhere?

Why did it take Trump FOREVER to leave NY? He (in theory) had been paying NY income tax up until just a year or two ago. Why didn't he shift it to FL? Because FL sucks. It has no culture. It has no heart. It has "florida man". The only reason people shifted residency to FL was for 0% income tax but they'll still be in NYC. They aren't contributing significantly to the economy of Florida. They just bought a house.

But anyway, you clearly have no hard stats and just Tucker Carlson bullets. Which is cool. I know he likes to use small words and phrases to help y'all understand things and make you feel smart.
