So what is this key shaking thing? I was at WVU/TTech game

Oct 17, 2017, 8:51 PM

this weekend and the WVU folks were shaking their keys. I didn't hear that they made any difference. Must be a yankee thing...

The Florida example is the one I'm familiar with as well. Game no longer in question. Time to leave.

We used to do in at Clemson in basketball. We had a white dude, last name key.
He could jump out of the gym and whenever he got in the game (mop up work) we shook our keys.
This was around 1976

I made a friend with the hokie beside me at the VA tech game and he told me that it started out there as something they did for key plays like third down and that they used to have a turkey foot rattle on their key chain to make more noise before it was outlawed. Now they just do it out of tradition withou the rattle. HTH

I was formally known as Furious george and have changed my name to match the name I use to call on WCCP radio.

West Va sided with the north and succeeded from VA during the war of the northern aggression-hence they are yankees.HTH

Agreed - West Virginia it's not a Yankee stayed because it became a state after the north over target and declared it a state. There were no confederate West Virginia units because it didn't exist when the war started.

Just a few tidbits of history here. General Benard Bee, born in Charleston and reared in Pendleton is credited with attaching "Stone Wall" to General Jackson at the first battle of Manassas. General Bee was mortally wounded in the Battle. One of the best biographies ever written about General Jackson is Rebel Yell by S. C. Gwynne.

That is interesting. Thanks! I always like to read the markers along the road & books like that. Thought I was the only one. Its sad how some don't know history. And calling WestVirginians yankees is... nevermind

Like they say, "Those that don't remember history are doomed to..." ...I forget the rest.

Well, they did leave Virginia to fight for the Yankees.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

is it one of those swinger things from the 70s?

where everyone places their keys in a bowl at a happening party? like in the movie ‘the ice storm’?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Believe it or not, Clemson tried to make this a thing too

Oct 18, 2017, 7:05 AM

I specifically remember during my time in college (1991-95) that the jumbotron used to proclaim "SHAKE YOUR KEYS" during important points of the game. It never really caught on that I remember. I don't know if they did it before my time or not.

And now i'm having flashbacks to just how primitive that jumbotron was. I'm not even sure it could show replays.
