So this is my son's 5th year on campus....

Feb 1, 2022, 4:24 AM

going one extra semester due to a co-op in Naples, FL.

In five years there has been ONE good non conference game in Texas A&M at home.

ND on the road twice, USC sucks and the ACC sucks.

Granted you can't play top tier teams every week, but give me someone better than La Tech

Friend of mine called it the Pandemic schedule last year. We keep hoping other ACC schools will get better, and we will keep that up. Maybe FSU? Meanwhile we watch the money spent, changes to stadium and the excessive lifestyle provided to players - not just here but all the big schools - and then NIL money. Writing the IPTAY check is hard - no problem with the tithe, or offerings to local ministries - but not seeing lot of eternal significance for IPTAY funds. Just musings of an old athlete who played because absolutely loved the game - not because there was sushi for supper or the face was really big on the screen.

I was there when Red Parker and Hootie was coaching. You are right it can be worse.

Same time as our son. Paying that tuition during those years was tough. Of course, he never attended a game. He was an athlete that enjoyed playing but was not interested in watching others play. Go figure.

My daughter was there during the gamecock streak. We lost all 4 years she was a student!

Hopefully your son gets over it. We play who we play.

So is his fifth year now or in the fall? Was he a student for one or two National Championships? We "only" had one during my four years, yet somehow that was enough.

I love worker co-ops

Wish our economy was built around them

I work closely with a company in Germany. I've got a good working relationship with the person who holds a pretty similar role as me.

Discussing my path through college and her path through co-ops was a startling difference. So much more time learning applicable skills vs. sitting in a class room in some class that discusses skills instead of learning them.

We could learn a lot from them

If I ever ran for public office, which is something that I have considered, my number one campaign issue would be the support of worker co-ops, worker-owned businesses, and the right to first refusal. Tax breaks/incentives seem like the most logical way of helping them gain more prevalence in our economy. And I think a lot of working class people would gain more pride in their work if they actually were involved in the decision making processes. Now it just feels like people show up to work and simply go through the motions.

I think most people "just show up to work" these days because they keep hearing "no bonuses this year" or "we can only bonus you $1,000" or "we made you come in to work when hospitals were at max capacity because we don't trust you to work from home despite numbers remaining the same so were going to throw you a pizza party" while their bosses are deciding if they should vacation in Greece or Tulum next quarter.

But I do agree that what you're saying would be a great way to change things.

Maybe Miami will be a little better next year. That could be a good home game.

Yes and in 2 years, unc's incoming class will start paying more dividends.

We should be careful what you hope for!
