UNC in their conference? That would bring an ENTIRELY new market to them and with it, a great basketball school.

I applaud the legislators for using their leverage and turning the tables on the conference. There were already rumors that the SEC was courting UNC during the last round of musical conferences. If you don't think the ACC will think HARD before banning tournaments now that one of their key schools could be up on the block - and yes, the SEC would come calling - you're crazy.

That makes $70M look like a drop in the bucket to the state of NC for multiple years of losses. That is simple math and won't stand in the way if another statewide ban is levied.

I can assure you they did not propose such a law without carefully thinking it through.

NCAA games in Cuba and China

Apr 12, 2017, 7:07 PM

Hmm.. I didn't the NCAA authorized a CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT in China and Cuba, I thought that those were individual games authorized by the teams and conferences involved, and allowed as EXHIBITIONS! The fact is that one or two games is a lot different from a Championship Tournament. Get back to me when the NCAA Tournament is in Bejing or Havana.

get back to me when the ACC and NCAA has any business bossing people around on bathroom policies.

HB2 was only implemented because Charlotte did an illegal ordinance that mandated PRIVATE businesses allow males who identify as women into female restrooms.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So the Citizens of Charlotte do not have the right..

to elect Legislators to pass laws for the city, unless they pass muster with the state? Which means that the state can dictate social engineering that the people of Charlotte oppose, to fit the Legislature's social beliefs? How could it be an ILLEGAL ORDINANCE if HB2 had to be passed to over ride it? That makes no sense!

surely you understand that some laws can only be passed at state and national level, not at a city level.

isn't it social engineering for the city of CHarlotte to boss around private businesses on their bathroom policies?

transgenderism is a delusion like anorexia. society doesn't pander to skinny girls who think they are fat, so why should we pander to people with delusions about their gender. it is sick to pander to a person's delusion.

Don't give a rats donkey about a law that doesn't do anything. No one is posting police to do a crotch check so a man who does a good costume can go into a women's restroom law or no law. Anorexia, bulimia etc are serious chit. I have had to force my daughter to eat because she was told she was fat by her ballet director. This for a girl who is 5 foot 5 inches 130 lbs and a 24 inch waist. We had to keep track of sharp objects because the pressure made her suicidal. And yes, we exercised parental authority and removed her from that situation. Doesn't change the fact that you are making light of a real issue that impacts a large number of women.

Re: So the Citizens of Charlotte do not have the right..

No. I am a parent of a child who has struggled with anorexia. It is a serious illness that is very difficult to defeat. Homosexuality is a different issue. It crosses into moral discussions that I don't care to debate. My issue is that you equate the two. One is a clearly defined illness, one is either a mortal sin or who cares depending on your pov.

i have not been discussing homosexuality. transgenderism isn't homosexuality. transgenderism is the false belief that you are the opposite sex. anorexia is the false belief that you are fat even if you are not fat.

i equate the two in the obvious sense that they are both false beliefs.

What? If UNC or NC St pulled out of the ACC, it doesn't bring those revenues back to the state. The NC legislature is threatening an action with everything to lose, namely $140 million and a virtual guarantee the ACC doesn't come back. Your math doesn't add up. And, the ACC can choose to host their events wherever its schools choose. Other than the fact that I love having the football championship in Charlotte, I wish the ACC would keep everything out of NC just to spite these weak-minded politicians. Don't they have a road to get paved somewhere?
