I was talking about Khalil Greene, my alltime favorite Tiger baseball player. My SIL had a few classes with him and knew him slightly. SIL insists that Khalil was juicing, big time. He even insists it had something to do with KG’s social anxieties and early retirement from baseball. NBD now, but I don’t wanna believe it. Any thoughts?

I don’t even remember Khalil as particularly “ripped”, although he was money at the plate. I choose not to believe SIL.

With the drug testing they do in college and the pros, I doubt it very seriously.

I believe it. It was highly prevalent in college baseball in the late 90s/early 2000s. Wasn't just exclusive to the pro level.

Never met him but did know his sister very well. Some weird family dynamics at play there. I think KG was convinced he needed to support everyone and the pressure became too great. Very sad.

against Coots and seemed to not get over making a rare fielding mistake..
plus, thinking in same game he had a sure homer robbed at the fence by great outfielder play.

2004 which was also Greene's 1st full season in the pros. It's possible he was on something while at Clemson because so many baseball players were during those years, but I doubt he would've been able to use them for 6 full seasons in the MLB without getting caught.
Also, how would your SIL know this? I doubt Greene was sitting around in class talking about it.

Word spreads quickly around campus.
2011 - 2015 had tons of football players that loved Xanax and psychedelics.
Easily cleared out of system / wont show up on drug test. Minimal effects the next day.

If you think testing has stopped PED use in baseball at any level you should probably turn on your TV any night and open your eyes. That’s a horse that will never be put back in the barn for one reason: money.

probably a lot less prevalent as a result. Back in the late 90s and early 2000s upwards of half the players in the league were juicing. You can look at the homerun totals by year and see the difference.

I was friends with his roommate his last year at CU. He was NOT juicing. His family had a very strict religious diet. Hence him eating tuna fish in the dugout between innings. I can't remember the name of the religion, but it was a mix of Buddhism and some form of Polynesian religion. He was very quiet and reserved. He would come to a party every once in a while, but wouldn't stay long, and kind of just sat in the shadows while he was there. At the time I thought he was just avoiding being recognized by other partygoers, but the more I saw him at his place, the more I realized he was just a very reserved person and hated the attention. He was, by far, the most natural athlete I have ever been around. He also worked his butt off at his craft. He would stay at the practice facility until the wee hours of the morning if he made an error or missed a certain pitch. He couldn't sleep until he figured it out. IMO that strive for perfection probably contributed greatly to his anxiety.

Green was his unusual diet…
I remember reading where all the kid would eat was canned tuna! Now, I like Tuna Salad as much as the next guy but, I also understand that one should not eat it regularly/often due to the Mercury levels in that fish.
Apparently, Too much Mercury in the system has a devastating effect on the human brain, causing all of the issues exhibited in Khalil Green’s behavior. BS? Maybe…but, could have been a direct contributing factor.
